Charles Kesterson Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Keith Kesterson, age 44, a resident of Lakeport for the last three years, passed from this world into the next March 26, 2005, in Elk Grove from natural causes. He was born May 19, 1960, and raised on the Big K family ranch in Elkton,Ore.

Nothing about Charlie was small. Standing 7-foot, 2-inches tall, he looked more bear than man ‹ teddy bear that is. Charlie spent most of his life as a lumberjack. He was so good at understanding how to cut trees and where they would fall, it was like he knew them personally. He loved his life in the outdoors enjoying fishing, hunting, trapping and storytelling.

Charlie had the biggest smile and the heartiest laugh ever seen or heard. One of his famous stories was of an encounter with the game warden where even though the daily limit was two fish, he was holding six ‹ which were easily explained by telling the warden that he wasn't fishing the next two days, so that made up for it.

Charlie leaves his father, Charles Alvin Kesterson; his uncle, Virgil Kesterson; his sisters, Kathie Williamson, Shirley MaGee and Linda Garrick; and his four adored children Melissa, 21, Jacob, 18, Joshua, 16, and Hallie, 15. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the ranch.

Charlie was twice the man than most with 10 times the heart. His lifelong quest was to find and do the will of God. Some say that he is in heaven now, arguing with Jesus over who is taller. Charlie's trials are over and we will miss him. We all say goodbye ‹ till we meet again.

I remember Charlie's smile and his big, tender heart. He was a kind, sweet man who was always ready to help you if you needed a hand. I loved to see his big grin as he sat in the back of the church and even so, he was taller than anybody in the room! I think his height was in porportion to the "tall" size of his heart.

Charlie and Jacob lived with our family when they first moved to Lakeport. He supplied a wonderful freezer full of meat and a wide array of stories to entertain us all. He and Jacob snuck candy to the kids when we weren't looking. (They still talk about that) Charlie had a wonderfully kind heart and he will be greatly missed by all of us who had the priviledge to know him.

Charlie was a precious human being that would never be malicious or hurtful to anyone. He had tremendous love for his children &

wanted all of the best for them.

Another love in Charlie's life was his Lord Jesus...and he told everyone about him. I am so glad

to have known"our gentle giant" for the last 7 years. He is Heavens

delight and the earth's loss.

We were introduced to Charlie in Lakeport and knew him only briefly when we needed two enormous Italian cypress trees removed from our front yard. Charlie came willingly and cheerfully as a favor to our daughter and son-in-law and did not want to accept a fee. He surveyed the situation, told us where the trees would land, and warned that a crepe myrtle might be scratched. We watched with trepidation while he prepared, and in minutes the cypress were lying exactly where he had predicted. Now when we see the crepe myrtle with its “scratch” we will always think of Charlie, a true pro and a loving person.
