Charles Horne Obituary

Mr. Horne was an incredible teacher and I feel grateful he was mine in 7th grade. Of all the teachers I have had, he was tops. He knew how to engage his students while still maintaining a high standard of education. If ever there was a man born to teach a confused lot of adolescents, it was Mr. Horne. I’m so sorry to hear now of his passing. I send my gratitude to his family for sharing Mr. Horne with all of us.

It’s been ten years since I lost my best friend and teaching mentor! I miss him every day. Sending love, hugs and positive thoughts to his daughter and my goddaughter, Julie, and his grandson, Andrew! Love you, my brother. ❤

Mr. Horne was a beacon of light during my dark and dreary junior high years, and one of the reasons I went into education. Condolences to his family. He was a truly unforgettable and great man.

Mr. Horne's talent for teaching...a rarity these days...was unsurpassed. He commanded respect, but also made students of that "awkward age" feel important and validated.
Mr. Horne's humor and compassion have always been an inspiration to me as I parent my children. He supported me long after I left Indian Trail and I was always so grateful to him. Many of us owe our successes and accolades to this gifted teacher and friend. God Bless you, my friend.

I was just thinking about Mr. Horne the other day. I used to love listening to him teach social studies. In fact like many of you that have already posted, he is the reason I became a teacher. It saddened me greatly to learn of his passing. I was searching for him and found his obituary. Rest in peace Mr. Horne, you are missed by many.

Mr. Horne was the friend I needed when I didn't have one. I have thought of him for many years and ashamed that it took me so long to look him up. I wanted to say thanks. Since I can't tell him in person, I will pray that he hears me.

I was just listening to someone speak about a favorite teacher they had growing up and as they continued I couldn't help but think of my favorite teacher, Mr. Horne. So sad to hear of his passing. I truly wish I could have told him how much he meant to me.

I was his student in the early 90s. Besides all the funny/goofy things he would do that made you actually look forward to his class, he was the first teacher I can remember that spoke to you on a real level. Even when he threatened us with a surprise end of the year exam only to pop in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure. I can't believe how much of that I class I still remember. He taught us about life through history and his own personal experiences. I'm glad to see so many other people feel the same way. Thanks so much!

I was a student teacher for Mr. Horne in 1992. I learned a lot about teaching from him and am grateful for having him for a mentor. I have been teaching now for 17 years and often think about his influence. I'm glad his White Sox won a World Series and he had many a good time at my expense since I am a Cubs fan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of our Dear Mr. Horne... I had the priviledge of being one of his students in the early 80's at Indian Trail Jr High. During those awkward adolescent years, Mr. Horne had a way of leaving you feeling seen, heard, important and unique. I can only hope he knew the lasting impact he had on each and every student whose path he crossed. You were by far, my favorite teacher! You even gave me a nickname that I will never forget! Charlie is my brother in-law. He was the inspiration for me to become a teacher. I always have and will love him.I will miss him forever.

It is so easy to remember the not so good teachers from ones past. When you have one or two that are thought of with good memories, you know they had a possitive impact on many. You were a great, passionate teacher and I will miss you, but always remember you.

"Mr Horne...what a great guy: extremely witty and a major influence on my life at those critical "coming of age" years. Did he impact my life? Mr. Horne was a teacher that stood out. His teachings inspired me to be a teacher today. His sense of humor and care for his students went further than he could imagine. I was very lucky to have Mr.Horne as my Socal Studies teacher. When I speak of Junior High and my experiences Mr.Horne always comes to mind and is always mentioned.What a wonderful inspiration and awesome teacher he was.Prayers and thoughts go out to his family,he was a special man Loved by many.
