Dear Sue and Chip,
I am so sorry to hear of the death of your Dad, my Uncle Charlie. My Mom Rosemary and I had a chance to visit with him in October, 2006. He knew my Mom, but, I am afraid by then he did not recognize me. It was still nice to spend some time with him, which turned out to be the last time I saw him
I remember when I was a kid and your folks and mine lived in the same house that Grandpa Glut owned and it was raining and there was lightening. Your Dad made me stay away from the door because he feared that I could be struck by lightning and I still had my whole life ahead of me. This happened over 50 years ago and I still remember that he cared about my safety.
He was also the one who said on a Christmas Eve many years ago that Santa Claus was on the roof and he pointed up in the sky and said, “do you see him.” And, I believed!
More recently, about 5 years ago, he wrote in his Christmas card to me to take care of my diabetes because both Grandma Glut and my Dad, William, had it as adults. He was very concerned for me.
I remember what a fantastic piano player he was, and when he came to Overland Park, KS with Aunt Julia for my Dad’s funeral he played ‘the Flight of the Bumblebee’ on Dad’s piano. He had quite an ear for music.
I just want you both to know that I am thinking of you and you have my deepest sympathy at this sad time.
I wish I could be there with you.
