Charles Doty Obituary

Doty, Charles Maurice "Reese" Passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 14th. He was 79 years old. Reese was born at Saint Luke's hospital in Chicago on November 20th, 1931 to loving parents John Hugh Doty II and Ethel Thelma Franklin Doty. He was the last surviving child of John and Ethel, but remained close to brothers John and Earl and sister Barbara Jean for as long as they lived. Reese grew up in Woodlawn where he attended McCosh Grammar School. He graduated from Englewood High School in 1949. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in April, 1960. Reese worked for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for 27 years before retiring in 1994. One of the great passions of his life was golf. He made life-long friends on the links and was a valued and respected member of the Tee Birds Golf Club. Reese also enjoyed fun filled laughter at weekly poker games with his friends. Perhaps most of all, Reese will be remembered for his gregarious personality. He was full of humor and good cheer, and he was always more than happy to share a good joke or a well-told story with a friend or stranger. Reese is survived by his nephews and nieces, John Michael Doty, Dwain Thomas Doty, Sherri Thornton Pierce (Michael Pierce) and Paula Thornton Greear, by his great-niece and great-nephew, Jade Greear and Jackson Greear, brother-in-law, Paul Thornton (Barbara Jean Doty), and by more friends and acquaintances than could be listed on this page. A memorial service and reception will be held for Charles Maurice Doty beginning at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 21st at Rayner and Sons Funeral Home.
