Caroline Yousse Obituary

Yousse, Caroline "June" (nee Boam) Passed away on December 21, 2013, in Prospect Heights, IL. She was born in Hanna, WY, a small coal-mining town, on May 18, 1925, to Jake and Margaret Boam. Her father was a coal miner in the Union Pacific mines, where he was paid in company scrip to be used at the company store. June often said her mother had two pictures in the house President Franklin D. Roosevelt and United Mineworkers of America President John L. Lewis. Despite the family's lack of wealth, June remembered a happy childhood with siblings, cousins and trips to Threemile Spring. During World War II, she worked in a mine machine shop, where she led a successful protest to allow women to work on Sundays and earn higher pay. She always wanted to be a nurse and graduated from Beth El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, CO, as a registered nurse. She worked at hospitals in Hanna, Laramie and Denver. She met her husband, Fred R. Yousse Jr., and lived 48 happy years with him in Denver and Lakewood, CO, before he passed away in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Yousse (Paul Saltzman) and son, Ron Yousse (Mayra); grandchildren, Jake and Zack Saltzman and Britney and Ronny Yousse and many nieces and nephews. Her siblings, Ronald Boam, Ruth Reed and Margaret Logan preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28 at Glenview United Methodist Church, 727 Harlem, Glenview. Memorial donations to Alzheimer's Association.
