Carl was always a pleasure to talk to. He made you feel as though you were worthwhile whenever he spoke to you. His style and Southern charm were a refreshing breeze in what passes today as manners. I enjoyed hearing about his beloved trains and about how proud he was of St John's and their video equipment. I could listen to his stories at length because they were true and sincere and conveyed a depth of feeling not often found today. I never got him to love computers but he could use them, though he always deferred to Carla as the computer genius in the family.

Whenever I'd meet folks who live in or near Statesville, I'd ask "Do you know Carl Litaker?" Of course, they'd always answer yes. I expect it will remain that way for a long time. A vivid remembrance is the best lasting tribute to a well-lived life. Rest in peace.

The family of Samuel L. Ostwalt wish to extend you our sympathy at this time.

Your husband and father attended the visitation for our father August 9th. At that time he told a wonderful story about his teaching days at Celeste Henkel. The story recalled an incident that I am certain enabled my father to have the success in his life that our family enjoyed.

My father spoke often and fondly of Carl. He was a great man that had a positive influence on many lives.

I am certain that the many wonderful memories of your husband and father will sustain you for the rest of your lives.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

B. Jo, please accept my sympathy on Carl's death. It is never easy to lose a loved one but do know that your friends (even from years ago) care and are with you in thought and prayer. Perhaps Carl and Floyd are already talking about the times at Appalachian and also those Jefferson parties when Floyd and I first met. I will always remember how surprised you were when you realized that my "date" was a friend of yours from college days. Our friendships from the Jefferson days seem to be lasting ones even though years have passed since we've seen one another.

Again, you have my sympathy in Carl's death.
