From our whole family we thank you for your kind words about our father. Perhaps in this divided world we can all remember not what divides us but rather what brings us together. Our father personified this approach to all the people who were part of his life.
Thanks and God bless you all.

Carl and I met walking our dogs years ago. He was kind, gracious, compassionate, welcoming, gentile, friendly, thoughtful, honorable. He contributed selflessly to many charities. I was grateful to know Carl as a friend and neighbor. Loving best wishes to his family and friends, who will also miss him.

My prayers and sympathy to the Groesbeck family. I had the pleasure of knowing Carl and attending energy conferences with him years ago when he was with Peoples Gas. We were competitors as I was in the petroleum industry. He was a true gentleman in every sense and I admired him. His service in the War was remarkable as I also served in the Air Force in Germany after the war. Carl was certainly "A Man For Others"

We are so sorry to see that Carl has passed away. A wonderful man who was a long time friend. One of the best.

To the Groesbeck family,
We were so sad to read about Carl's passing, but what an amazing life! My parents, Dick and Lorraine Smith, adored your parents. They cherished their friendship and all of the fun they had with the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn gang. My dad always said that Carl was reticent to discuss his POW story, but I'm glad that he shared it with his children so that you could share it with us.
On behalf of all the Smiths, please accept our condolences. We'll always remember your dad as a wonderful man.

There are some people who, by their nature, radiate light and kindness from their eyes, hearts, and souls. Carl was one of those people who allowed me the immense privilege of sitting with him to recite the Rosary as we joined a group of devout and saintly others like himself. Carl loved reciting the Rosary! He was a humble, gentle person who shared stories with me about his routine travels to meet with his military associates, about his unique vacations abroad with his wife and friends, and most especially about his children and grandchildren, when his face would glow with joy and happiness! His demeanor exuberated pride as he praised their successes. He spoke about his frequent trips to CA, sporting events, and his invitation to live in Oak Park. For past Parish Christmas dinners, he would contribute a dessert that he made, a favorite, which his wife had made in earlier times. Carl enjoyed his independence and drove himself to Mass as long as he was able but never stopped attending Mass after he retired from driving. His devotion never wavered! Everyone loved Carl! He was an Inspiration to everyone who met him and knew him! As a Minister of the Eucharist, I was allowed the humblest of opportunities to place the Sacred Host Jesus into his mouth. I often felt the need to lower myself in his presence, a giant of righteousness! It is an honor to have known him. He is a true superhero and saint, who is dearly missed and will be for years to come!

My deepest sympathies to all of Carls children and grandchildren. We were all proud to call Mr. Groesbeck our neighbor and friend on Grey Willow Road. He was a kind man. A humble man. A Godly man. A reminder to us all to always hold dear all who serve and have served our country. RIP Carl. There are many waiting for you In heaven with open arms, of this I am sure.
