Tobin, Calvin Jay 86, of Highland Park. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Joan Tobin; devoted and loving father of Michael (Nancy) Tobin and Nancy (Howard) London; incredible Poppa of Rebecca (Jonathan) Feldman, Matthew Tobin, and Michelle and Jacqueline London; dear brother of Bert (Nancy) Tobin and the late Saul (Susan) Tobin; cherished brother-in-law of Dorothy (Tom) Ungerleider; doting uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, to which he dedicated a lifetime of service, including a term as President of the National Alumni Association and the oldest Alumni Football Cheerleader. He was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He was proud of his community service to the City of Highland Park and served as Chairman of the Appearance Review Commission, the Plan Commission, and 15 years as a City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem. Services Thursday 11 AM at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Rd., Glencoe. Interment Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan & Calvin Jay Tobin Scholarship Fund c/o Janice Harvey at Taubman College of Architecture at the University of Michigan, 2000 Bonisteel Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI 48109. I worked with Cal building Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview. He was a wonderful person and I grew as a manager after working with him. The world just doesn't create people like Cal everyday. I hope to leave a legacy like Cal did someday. His family must be extremely proud of his accomplishments.

I had the good fortune to have had Calvin Jay Tobin as my mentor while with Loebl, Schlossman and Hackl for over 30 years.
Cal was the ultimate architect with a strong sense of design,construction detailing, as well as the business side of architecture.
He was always ready to give advice (which I took) and spoke warmly of his family, especially Joan.
Cal was one of the most influential persons in my life. He will be missed.
