Brian Homer Obituary

Brian Marshall Homer, age 29, was born in Madison, Connecticut on May 13th 1981. He passed suddenly but peacefully in Denver, CO on November 10th 2010, having either spoken with or seen all of his immediate family in the previous two days. Brian is survived by two loving parents, David and Jayne Homer, his sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Benjamin Bruce, his niece and goddaughter, Kaelyn Bruce, and his grandmother, Katherine Homer. Brian will be remembered as a young man who selflessly gave unto others – as a dancing and singing godfather to his niece; as a grandson who nursed his grandfather in the final days; as a devoted coach to the DHHS volleyball and Paulson soccer teams; as a drug counselor around the clock to the many students with whom he worked; as a son to parents who will never feel cheated of hugs and phone calls; and as a friend to so many. Brian's family and friends will celebrate his life from the peaks of mountains, from the ocean's edge, and on golf-course greens -- the places where he found greatest joy and serenity. A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, November 18 at the North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd, Guilford, CT, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Those wishing to remember Brian with a memorial gift are asked to make donations to Madison Cares (Habitat for Humanity), an organization to which Brian had a strong affinity. To The Homer Family,

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I had the honor of giving Brian his completion certificate at his graduation. I will never forget Brian holding his precious niece in his arms when he accepted his certificate. He was beaming holding that little baby. I also remember you and your daughters faces when you saw your son. I can only hope that your family can take comfort in knowing that Brian gave back so much to so many. Although the world is short an amazing man, heaven gained a loving angel and I know that he will always be watching over all of us. You are in my prayers.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Homer,

You don't know me but I had the pleasure of knowing your son. I am from Texas and I had the pleasure of working with Brian. He helped me tremendously during my training and always gave me words of encouragement. Although I only knew him for a very short time, I will remember his words forever. I will continue to hold Brian and the rest of his family in my prayers and know that he is walking the streets of gold in heaven. God bless you Brian and God Bless you Mr. and Mrs. Homer as well as the rest of your family.

For Brian's Family,
I feel very lucky for the time I had with Brian. He was a loving and caring man and often thought of how he could help others. I had the privilege of working with and then eventually along side of Brian. During this time Brian learned that helping another is the greatest gift you can give. Brian's memory lives on in the lives of the many whom he touched. I will think of him often and know he is guiding me along my path. I will think of the days when he would let my son ride on his skateboard and would show me the beautiful pictures of his niece. My thoughts prayers are with you Mr and Mrs Homer and Mr and Mrs Bruce.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Homer,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I was deeply saddened when I heard that Brian had passed. Although I hadn't seen Brian for a number of years, I have such great memories of playing soccer with him on the travel team and on the high school team. He was a great player and teammate. I will not be able to make it to the service as I am currently living abroad, but I will be thinking of him tomorrow and will keep warm memories of him throughout the years.

Dear Mr. 7 Mrs. Homer & Family,
I want to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I know you will all miss Brian very much. I had the good fortune of working with Brian. He was a kind and gentle soul and I always admired that. He had a spiritual quality about him. One of the first times I spoke with Brian he had tears in his eyes as he told me how much he loved his family; he showed me a photo of his sister & here daughter, his little niece and told me how precious she was . He spoke with great love about his entire family but he certainly had a special connection with his neice. You should know that Briqan was very dedicated in helping others overcome addiction. Brian will always live in our hearts, his accomplishments are many; he helped to bring peace and joy back to families. The world is a better place because Brian Homer lived and we are very glad that we got to spend some time with him.
Sincerely, Mary Watts
