Anderson, Bobby R. March 8, 1933 - August 1, 2006. Bobby was a professional golfer and longtime Chicago resident. He acquired a great passion for golf, which he pursued for 40 years. He played on the Negro Tour in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and, after the PGA Tour integrated in 1961, he competed for PGA tour cards for many years. He twice qualified for the Senior PGA Tour, and provided instruction to young golfers at the Columbus Park Golf Course. Bobby is survived by his 12 children: Sidney, Marvin, Norman, Melvin, Audrey, Robert, Karan, Lawrence, Mark, April, Steven, and Crystal. He will be lovingly remembered by his long-time companion Lillian Dorris, brother Otis "Butch" Anderson, 10 grandchildren, and many friends and golf buddies. Bobby was one for the ages, and will be sorely missed. Funeral 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 9th, at A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home, 5911 W. Madison, in Chicago. Visitation Tuesday, August 8th, 4 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, August 9th, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Approaching the first year of your passing has provided me much needed time to internalize my sorrow and grief. You are sorely missed with your unique perspective on life. Although, we had our share of differences on issues, I admired your tenacity and courage to deal with an un-level playing field in the pursuit of your personal aspirations. Throughout the years you readily offered advice, encouragement, and what it takes to be accountable for one’s action—guidance a father is expected to pass on to their sons. Bobby, your passing continues to be mourned by those of us who loved you so much. I feel very fortunate and honored to be one of your sons. This is my tribute to you—my father.

My sincerest sympathies go out to the Anderson family on the passing of Bobby. I know how much respect and fondness Marvin held for his dad, and remember hearing many amusing golf stories involving Bobby when Marvin would reminisce about home over the years. I know he will be missed, but also that Bobby left a wonderful legacy through his children.

Deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Bobby R. Anderson. Although I may never have met Bobby in person, I have had the honor to know one of his sons - Marvin. Through him I know that Bobby must have been a man of grace, courage, and wisdom for that is what lives on in his son.

If by knowing a man's son one may say they knew something of the man then I knew Bobby Anderson. I never met Bobby Anderson but I know his son Marvin and the content of his character. All the things that Bobby Anderson gave to the world remain to encourage and inspire us.
Marvin and family, I am sorry that you will miss him but everytime you call upon a memory he is reborn.
With greatest sympathy
