I just learned about Mr. Dawson's passing. He was the principal at Whitney Young when I attended. My condolences to the family! I will share the sad news with the alum on the WYHS alum site. God Bless.

My condolences to the Dawson family. I worked with Mr. Dawson at Calumet High School for his tenure there and then moved on with him to Whitney Young. He was definitely the right man for the job of opening the first magnet high school in Chicago that was created to implement the Brown V.Board of Education ruling for desegregation. The diversity of Young began with Mr.Dawson's vision of equal opportunity for all children regardless of race, ethnicity or wealth. Whitney Young is his living legacy.

Mr. Dawson was an exceptional leader with a vision which became the Whitney Young Magnet High School. While he will be missed, all should be comforted with the thought that his contributions live on in those who were in the school while he was its founding principal.

It is with great sadness to hear about the passing of Mr. Bernarr Dawson. As Principal of Whitney Young Magnet High School, his leadership helped Whitney Young become the flag ship high school for CPS. In addition, Whitney Young became, and still is, the most racially diverse high school in CPS. Mr. Dawson was a down to earth, humble, and compassionate man. It was my pleasure to work under his leadership as a teacher at Whitney Young Magnet High School. He will be missed. My prayers are with the Dawson Family.

I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Bernarr Dawson. These can be difficult times, however, comfort can be found in God's Word the Bible with such scriptures as Isa.25:8, and Ps.37:29.
