Barbara's interests included art, nature, and ornithology (birds), and she once expressed her desire to be reincarnated as a chickadee due to her deep love for birds. A Memorial Mass will be held on December 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 1630 N. Cleveland, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated to the Washington Island Art and Nature Center (www.wianc.org). Arrangements entrusted to the Original Kuratko Family – Brian D. Kuratko, Funeral Director. I will truly miss my dear mentor, colleague and friend, Barbara Siebel.

I feel genuinely blessed and honored to have worked with Barb in my first teaching job at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Westchester. A treasured member of the IHM faculty, Barb was greatly respected and admired for her integrity, trustworthiness, and wise leadership.

As IHM´s Art Department Chairperson, Barb graciously welcomed me, a naïve first-year teacher who had just graduated from college, to IHM. Patiently teaching me everything about teaching art, Barb generously shared her pearls of wisdom, passion for teaching art, and practical knowledge for teaching high school students.

Barb was genuinely committed to the arts and worked tirelessly to ensure IHM students receive the finest art education that would allow them to fulfill their artistic goals.

It was a sincere privilege to work alongside Barb, a true master teacher who possessed that rare combination of passion for her subject, practical experience, and impressive knowledge of art and art history. I am forever grateful to Barb for inspiring and guiding me as an art teacher.

Not only was Barb a master teacher, she was also a world traveler and accomplished photographer who photographed the greatest masterpieces of art and architecture that she shared with her students, colleagues and friends as she generously provided enlightening and educational lectures.

I cherish Barb´s friendship and will always remember her warm and radiant smile, joyful laugh, great optimism, and adventurous spirit. Barb was not only my mentor as an art teacher, but she also taught me by her example how to live a fulfilling and meaningful life: appreciate art, enjoy nature, celebrate animals and wildlife, care for others, travel the world, and surround oneself with loving friends and family.

I express my deepest sympathy to Barb´s family.

Barbara Siebel was an outstanding Art Department Chairperson, Art Advocate, Mentor, Art Teacher, and Artist at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Westchester. Barbara travelled extensively to Art Museums and Art Galleries throughout her life and brought back a unique outlook and masterful study of the Arts for the IHM students, the faculty, and staff. Barbara was wholeheartedly devoted to educating her students and worked diligently in order to build a magnificent Art Department and progressive art program. It was an honor to teach with Barbara in the Art Department at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School. She was an exceptionally kind and fantastic Mentor. I will miss our lifelong conversations of the art world, education, and visits to the Art Institute. My sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to her family.
