Barbara Marchewka Obituary

Marchewka, Barbara Ann

Barbara Ann Marchewka, nee Cichon, 87, of Park Ridge, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Her life began on June 29, 1935 in Chicago. Throughout her life she loved spending time with her family and hearing about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mamau. She volunteered many hours to the John W. Garvy, PTA, as President as well as Secretary. She enjoyed traveling to many countries as well as taking many cruises with her beloved husband the late Lawrence S. Marchewka. After she retired from Protection Mutual, she went on to take many trips with the Mainstreamers, which is a senior citizen program ran through Park Ridge Park district. She loved feeding and watching her hummingbirds. She was able to stay in her Condo, due to her daughter, Anastasia helping her manage her senior years by taking wonderful care of her, making sure she got to her doctor appointments, and to Ivana DiPiero hair salon, where she loved to go weekly, because of their kindness. Ivana even supported Barbara's desire to dye her hair, pink and then later blue. Barbara had a wonderful soul, who lived her senior years, her way. She loved hearing about her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly called her Mamau. Barbara had a smile that would brighten up a room, her laughter was contagious. Saying we will miss her is an understatement. She is survived by her loving children of Stanley (Mary) Marchewka, Jean (John) Ahlenius and Anastasia (Sean Newell) Marchewka-Doyle; proud grandmother of Brieanna, Corey, Lauren, John, Joseph and Isabelle; great grandmother to William, Vivian, Mallie and Marjorie. Sister to the late Helene (Loran) Wishard; Step sister to, the late Joan (Robert) Rozner, Doris (the late Larry) Brooks, and Jacquelyn (the late Donald) Sireci, the late James Cichon and the late Richard Zurawski. Sister to her beloved extended family; the late Geri Wojdynski, William (Paz) Bonin, the late Joan (Don) Gailloreto and Cis (the late Larry) Bonin. Dear sister-in-law; to Robert (the late Shirley) Marchewka, Joseph (Karen) Marchewka and Christine (the late Gary) Stine. Barbara will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and cherished friends. A memorial visitation will take place Sunday, July 31 at the M. J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago from 11:30 am until the time of the memorial service held at 1:30 pm. As one of the "Garvey Girls", I treasure my times with Barb. AND Barb was my Jafra rep wherein we could keep up our contacts. Bringing Christmas cookies to Barb was also one of our routines.

I was very sad to hear of Auntie Barbara's passing. I have some great memories of her and will miss her laughter! I will pray for peace and comfort for y'all. I miss my mom every single day. It's very hard to lose our parents, but especially our moms. I love y'all and hope you feel God's comfort and peace during this very difficult time.

Love you!
