Mezmalis, Ausma Malda (nee Krigeris) Born March 8, 1937 in Saldus, Latvia, passed away surrounded by her family April 10, 2018 at the age 81 in Hoffman Estates. Beloved wife of Janis Mezmalis; loving mother of Malda Rose, Ilga Smrz (husband, Bert) and Parsla Carbery (husband, Jim); devoted grandmother of Vija Viksne, Stephanie Fuller (husband, Eric), Andre Clement, Janis Carbery, Larisa McHugh (husband, Steve); doting great-grandmother of Vasara Rauda; sister of Valda Scatchell (husband, Gus), Visvaldis Krigeris (wife, Ruta), late Vilnis Krigeris (wife, Janice), late Janis Krigeris (wife, Sandra) and Dzidra; aunt to Ivars Krigeris (wife, Terry), Roberts Krigeris (wife, Terri), Sandra Sulski (husband, Gary), Timothy Krigeris, Jana Krigeris, Vilnis Krigeris (wife, Laura) and the late Joey Scatchell. Ausma was cherished by her family, friends and by the Latvian community in Chicago. She was known for her generosity, talent for baking Latvian tortes and breads, love of literature, music and poetry. She was active in the Latvian community and her church. Ausma's greatest joy in life was her family. May she rest in heavenly peace. A memorial service for Ausma will be held April 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Latvian Lutheran Church, 450 Forest Preserve Drive, Wooddale followed by a service at Oakridge Cemetery, 4301 Roosevelt Rd, Hillside.
