On the anniversary of Ashok´s passing, our condolences to Martha, Bala and Ashok´s other family members. Though his life was much too short, it was nonetheless rich. He had a happy marriage, a successful career in university teaching, where he excelled and was much beloved, and many, many friends. He is missed: he left us far too early.

I was part of the 1995 MBA class that went France and Germany. Ashok was a great educator and man of the world. He will be missed. He played a major role in that final year of my graduate education, which in turn became a major lever for my career. My condolences to all

In the spring of 2004, my graduating MBA class voted Ashok our favorite professor, and the vote was unanimous. I admired this man very much and was shocked to hear of his passing. I will always remember how brilliant, engaging, entertaining, and classy he was. He is a role model for me.

Lenora and I hope Martha will always find comfort in knowing you are able to recall all the good times you shared with Ashok. All the travels and adventures.
We wish also for Bala to hold on to all the family memories, and all academic and "Economic Discussions" you shared. I believe he looked up to his older brother.
Ashok will be missed by family, friends, and his students.

My sincere sympathies Martha. Ashok was my most memorable -- fun and interesting and full of life -- professors. Through him I became friends with several wonderful people. I will keep you and Ashok's whole family in my prayers.

I was very saddened to hear about Ashok's passing. We met as students in India, and when I saw him again in the States, I felt he hadn't changed at all as a person. I will always remember Ashok's warm friendliness and easy-going cheer. My deepest condolences to his family.
Peace.

I am deeply saden to hear about Professor Ashok Batavia. I cherished the days that he took the class to Malaysia. He was such a wonderful man who had taught me so much about international Economics. He was always smiling and talking about his wonderful wife. He told me stories about all of his trips that he had taken and we always had a great conversation together. He will be missed, but never forgotten. I will miss him deeply and I thank him for everything that he has taught me. My blessing to Martha and all of Ashok's family.

I am a very fortunate person. I was lucky enough to have Ashok as a teacher and more importantly as a friend. His always positive demeanor and wonderful sense of humor, I know has touched many.
I feel badly for those that did not get a chance to meet this great man, more so for those that did not hear him teach.
I am sure to carry with me the positive outlook he so often shared with others - including all the great tips on playing Blackjack.
I have always admired those that live life on their own terms and I believe Ash exceeded most in doing so.
Ashok will be missed, but never forgotten.

My sister has been so sad this week. She called me and told me of Ashok's passing. And then she continued to send me several emails throughout the day from people sharing stories of how amazing Ashok was. In one of her calls she shared stories with me of the travels they all took together and how Ashok brought traveling into her life. Without that, she would not have made so many travels over the past decade. She also told me how Ashok talked to her about her then boyfriend (now husband), and how he would tell her they would be married. And she said she valued what he said so much because she knew how deeply in love Ashok was and that he had the best marriage of anyone she had ever known. She told me that he was larger than life and was just the neatest person, and how she was so sad. She has so many wonderful stories about Ashok and how he affected her life. I just wanted to share this because I'm not sure she would. And I'm sure there are so many other people who feel the same.

I can hardly believe he's gone. Though it's been several years since I've seen him, I'll always remember Ashok's big smile. I credit him, in part, for pushing me to go to college when more school was the last thing I wanted. I have fond memories of practicing French with him, his makeup advice (ha ha), conversations about what kind of guy is my type, and math tips and tricks. My condolences to Martha and his family.

Ashok's passing is a great loss to us all. He was much too young and much too good. Nonetheless, we should celebrate his life. He had a very good marriage to a wonderful woman and a career doing what he loved, and what he did so well, teaching at DePaul University. Everyone should live so well!
Our very sincerest condolences to Martha, Ashok's mother, Bala and the rest of Ashok's loved ones. We'll all miss him.
