Shields, Dr. Arthur J. beloved husband for 64 years of Lillian (nee Dukart), devoted father of Annette (the late Rabbi Robert) Benjamin, Marilyn (Harvey) Mines and Roberta (Stuart) Kaplan, loving grandfather of Rissa (Lee) Cutler, Suzanne (Brian) Robbins, Jeffrey (Melissa) Benjamin, Diana (Paul) Nielander, Gary Mines, Roni Kaplan, Howard (Sarah) Kaplan and Michael Kaplan, cherished great-grandfather of nine, dear brother of Diane (the late Harold) Hirsch and the late Ruth (the late Elmer) Jacobson. Services Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Temple Beth Israel, 3601 W. Dempster, Skokie, IL, 60076. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in his memory to Temple Beth Israel or the charity of your choice. I worked with Dr. Shields for 10 years at District Medical Center. I remember his great organizational skills and his love of children. While I didn't always agree with his beliefs, I did admire that he was a man of principle.
