Celebrating a Life Well Lived

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arlene McElwee, who left us peacefully at the age of 88 on February 4, 2026, in Homer Glen, Illinois.

Born on February 16, 1937, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Arlene was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Over nearly nine decades, she inspired her family and friends through her compassion, strength, gentle generosity, and motherly love.

Arlene McElwee was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McElwee; parents, Arthur and Mary Hoffmann; in-laws Ray and Selma McElwee; brother, Ronald Hoffmann; great granddaughter Maisey McElwee.

She is survived by her three sons, Scott (Robin) McElwee, Cory (Katheryn) McElwee, and Shawn (Tina) McElwee; sister, Cheryl Gramm; six grandchildren, Joshua (Kate), Justin (Erica), Kayla (Larry), Meghan (Jake), Sarah, and Ryan; and seven great

grandchildren, Morgan, Cassius, Easton, McKenzie, Cordelia, Madelyn, and Mason; along with many relatives and dear friends.

She was often heard saying, "thank you for your kindness", "take your time" or "smell the roses"; phrases that captured her patience, grace, and kindness to others. She will be remembered for her stories, her love of fishing and puzzles, famous cookies, gentle spirit, and devotion to family.

Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial gathering on February 13, 2026, in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9 th St. Lockport, IL

60441 from 4:00pm until time of service at 7:00pm. Family and friends will then meet on

Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:30am at Evergreen Cemetery (3401 W. 87 th St., Evergreen Park, IL) for graveside services.

Arlene McElwee's legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered, always.
