DeRose, Anthony F. 85, of Waukegan, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Westmoreland Nursing Home in Lake Forest. He was born June 7, 1920, in Chicago and had been a 50 year resident of Waukegan. Anthony was a member of St. Anastasia Church in Waukegan, also a member of Sigma XI National Honor Society for Chemists, former member of the Swedish Glee Club and Holy Name Society at St. Anastasia Church. He retired from Abbott after 40 years of service, his first 20 years as a Bio Chemist and last 20 years as a Research Pharmacist, by the time he retired his name was on 24 foreign patents and 7 US patents. Anthony volunteered as a little league baseball coach for the Northside Athletic Club. From 1943 to 1945 he served with the Army Air Corp 15th Air Force Italy 465 Bomb Group, 780 Bomb Squadron, he saw combat over the Balkans, Rhineland, North Apennines, Central Europe and Po Valley, during that time he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Metals for lead Navigator on a mission over Prague. Anthony flew 35 combat missions on a B24 during his tour of duty, earning the Europe Theater Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Air Force Reserve Medal with Gold Hour Glass. From 1945 to 1980, Anthony served in the Air Force Reserves retiring as a full Colonel and Commander of the 9597 Air Squadron at O'Hare. He is survived by his children, Ralph (Maryann) DeRose of Carmel, Indiana, Diane (Jack) Grant of Libertyville, David (Sue) DeRose of Lake Villa, Peter (Sharen) DeRose of Gurnee, Robert (Catherine) DeRose of Naperville, Mark (Martina) DeRose of Waukegan and 21 grandchildren. His brother and sisters, Louis (the late Genevieve) DeRose, Carmella (the late Dan) DeLeo, Ann (Ralph) Treccia, Yolanda (Jerry) Lullo, Edie (the late Marvin) Jett, sister-in-law, Barbara DeRose and many nieces and nephews. Anthony is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia DeRose in 1993; parents, Ralph and Carmella DeRose; and his brother, Ralph DeRose. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005, at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave. Waukegan. Entombment will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

He always treated me like a daughter and not a daughter in law. He treated me with honor and love and I will miss him. But I will see his eyes in the eyes of my children as a silent testamony that he lives on.
