Annette Buckingham Obituary

Buckingham, Annette Powell A College Instructor and former school teacher passed away at home in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, March 24, 2002, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born on May 26th, 1939, in Chicago, IL, to Phillip and Nettie Powell. She graduated from Hyde Park High School and attended Roosevelt University prior to relocating to Los Angeles, California, with her family in 1963. Annette taught elementary school in Los Angeles. A mutual friend introduced Annette to Ronald Buckingham whom she married in 1968. Three years later they with their two children, Anthony and Michelle, immigrated to Canada. She continued her teaching career in Ottawa during the 1970's and briefly worked in advertising in the early 1980's. Eventually, she found her true calling as a English as a Second Language Instructor. During her tenure she always developed a special bond with her students. Throughout her life, Annette had artistic flair for painting, choral singing and writing. Annette is survived by her husband and children, mother and brother, Lyndon White both of Los Angeles and daughter-in-law, Kelly Savage of Oceanside, CA, also by her aunt, Marie White and cousins, Donna Westerberg, Debbie Williams and Renee Lamar of Country Club Hills, IL, to include extended family in Louisiana, Michigan, New York and Texas. Interment at Lincoln Cemetery, (773-445-5400), 12300 S. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL, 60658, at 1 p.m., on Saturday March 30th, 2002. Visit Guest Book at www.suntimes.com
