Ann Marohn Obituary

Marohn, Ann

Ann Marohn, 89, died peacefully on January 15 in Lincolnwood, Illinois. Ann was born in Decatur, Illinois in 1935 and lived most of her life in Oak Park, Illinois. As a young girl, Ann took up tennis at the courts across the street from her house and passionately fought all the way to the Junior National Clay Court Championships, where she performed admirably in Doubles. She continued to play into her 80s and was a member of the Oak Park Tennis Center for decades.

Ann earned a Bachelor's degree at Marquette University and a Master's degree from Northeastern Illinois University. She taught Junior High English in the Oak Park School District. Ann was a devoted resident of Oak Park and committed to volunteerism, most notably at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, where she was a founding member, giving tours for over 40 years. In retirement, Ann became an active member of the League of Women Voters.

Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother and passionate educator whose love for family and community never diminished. She is survived by her son, Rick, (Renee Sprogis), daughter Kate, (Brian Bartsch), grandchildren Rebecca Degan, (Duke), Ryan Marohn, Robert Marohn, Max Bartsch, Anna Bartsch and great-grandson Isaac Degan. My condolences to all her family. Ann was part of a group that toured China circa 1986. Although the group was together for just two weeks, Ann's lovely personality made a lasting impression on us all. Rest in peace.

So sorry to learn of Ann´s passing. She and my mom, Sharon Ferre, were born on the same day and in the same hospital and my understanding became friends just a few years later. They remained friends their entire lives, along with their childhood friend Mary Ann Kahmann, ultimately sharing many adventures together across Europe. And the three of them meeting back in Illinois for reunions in their last years of life. My mom passed away in 2021. I like to think Ann and my mom are now together somewhere, sharing a glass of wine, waiting on Mary Ann, and reliving their shared memories from over 8 decades of friendship

My condolences to your family. Ann was a great mom! I taught Sue in fifth grade at Mann School. I loved both Sue and her mom, Ann. What lovely people! I´m so sorry for your loss.
