Andrew Field Obituary

Field, Andrew Maximilian

Andrew Maximilian Field, 34, passed away peacefully at home in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood after living with lung cancer for three years. He endured intensive treatment throughout with characteristic grace, strength, and good humor. As a student of biology with a keen interest in science, Andrew willingly participated in two clinical trials of novel cancer treatments. He took solace in knowing that, although did not benefit directly, knowledge gained by his involvement as a study participant would advance our global fight against this devastating disease. He sincerely hoped other cancer patients would benefit from his contribution. Andrew graduated from Downers Grove South High School. A highlight of his time there was his participation in the school orchestra, where he played violin and made many lifelong friends. Before completing his bachelor's degree in biology at Northeastern Illinois University, Andrew studied at the University of Illinois at Chicago and College of DuPage. Andrew greatly enjoyed working as a biochemistry research assistant during his time at Northeastern. Many young members of the Downers Grove community remember him as a staff member in the Junior Room of the Downers Grove Public Library, assisting youth in finding books and facilitating popular community programs such as Chess Club and Lego Club. Andrew greatly enjoyed bringing his loves of the outdoors and working with youth together as a counselor at YMCA Camp Pinewood. He also worked as a valued assistant to the late Dr. William Born, an excellent and caring Chicago community dentist. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Andrew valued his heritage and close bonds with distant family. His many return trips to Korea were fun and rewarding, as were visits to his dad's upstate New York hometown and family cottage in Ontario. He particularly loved gaming, sailing, music, and being with loved ones. Despite the tragic cancer diagnosis that defined so much of his final chapter, family and friends remember Andrew as bright, happy, active, adventurous, and witty. Andrew was the beloved husband of Christina "Tina" Maria Kouba Cavallo, cherished son of Robert Murray Field and Mijeong Park Field, loving brother of Daniel Wilberforce (Jillian "Lilly") Field, devoted brother-in-law of Anna Battistina Kouba Cavallo, fond son-in-law of James Dominick Cavallo and Joanne Mary Kouba, and faithful companion of Minnie the Shih Tzu and the late Buena the Mini Dachshund. A memorial service is being planned. Further information will be posted as it becomes available. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. Arrangements by Inclusive Funeral Care, 773-370-2959 or www.InclusiveFuneralCare.com.

While I did not know Andrew - I noticed his memorial bench along the lake which is near where I live. I got curious since I noticed he was young when he passed. Greatly enjoyed reading about his life, his positive outlook, how he turned his situation into something to help others. I just wanted to leave this note to his family that it's not often the world produces these types of people so you should be proud that your family produced Andrew.
