Ron - All of us at the Museum of Contemporary Art are saddened by the sudden loss of Andree, our longtime friend. Andree was a truly incredible woman. Her gallery thrived and introduced us to many new artists and, in turn, her leadership at the MCA introduced many new people to the museum. She always had a way of making everyone feel welcome and appreciated no matter if they were a long-time friend or a new acquaintance. Her legacy will live on and the MCA and all of us who knew her have been changed for the better. Our thoughts are with you.
Best,
Lisa

There once was a great violin player whose only joy in life was playing his music for other people. He had no interest in honorable titles or in large fees for his services. In fact, he would often simply take his violin down into the subway station and play there for the passersby just for the sheer joy of sharing his music with others. Then one day a tragic thing happened. The violin player was in an accident and both of his hands were badly injured and he could no longer play his violin. The violin player could not be consoled and sank into a deep depression until one day a young boy came to see him. The boy told the master that he had heard him play in the subway station many times and he loved his music. He heard that the master had injured his hands and could no longer play and he asked if the master could teach him his music. The master said I cannot show you how to play, but you remember what the music sounded like and I will teach you what I know. He did this and the boy became a great violin player himself and this brought boundless joy to the master.

The sages of the Talmud teach one that when a man dies his soul mourns for the body. And one might ask why should the soul, which has been freed from its earthly bounds and can return to its heavenly abode, mourn for its earthly home? The sages go on to say that the soul when it is released from the body can no longer express all of its beautiful character traits into this world. That is the job of the body, to serve as a vehicle for the expression of the beauty of the soul in this world. And for the loss of that vehicle the soul mourns.

You see, the violin player is the soul, his hands are the body and the music is the beauty of the soul being expressed into this world.

So what can we do to comfort the soul in its mourning? Only one thing will bring true comfort to the soul, and that is if we commit ourselves to incorporating into our own lives those ideals that it was trying to express in its stay here in this world; if we commit ourselves to carry on playing the music of this soul.

Andree had a very big soul and it expressed itself in many beautiful ways: her love for her family and friends, her desire to give to those around her and in fact to give to all mankind through her philanthropic work, her passion for justice and her awesome integrity that permeated all aspects of her life.

Now is the time, when her memory is still fresh, for us to contemplate her life and decide how we can in some small way carry on the work of this great soul. If we do this then her death will not be a source of grief and mourning, but rather it will be a source of inspiration for us to grow and become better people.

Ron - I know how close Andree and you were. She was your best friend, wonderful wife and loving mother and grandmother to Reese, Micah and Braelyn. You, Arin and Andy are in my prayers and thoughts (not just now but always). I know you will remember all the wonderful times you had for 50 plus years. Take comfort that Andree is at peace and no longer suffering. I hope as time goes by, the pain you feel will lessen. Stay strong. Love Art and Chris
