Anastasios Karalis Obituary

Karalis, Anastasios "Tasso"

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tasso Karalis, a beloved husband, father, brother, brother in-law, uncle and friend, who left us on October 27, 2024. Anastasios Karalis, or better known as Tom, Tassos by his friends and family, was born in Greece and in 1952 immigrated to the United States as a graduate student at Roosevelt University, settling in Chicago, Illinois, where he built his life. His enthusiasm for sports, as soccer player and coach of Olympiakos, the Greek soccer team in Chicago, was further expressed through his role as a sports columnist for the Greek Press, where his words inspired and entertained many. Tasso is survived by his wife, Katerina, and their cherished son, John. He is also remembered with gratitude and admiration by his brother Constantine. His spirit, generosity, passion for fairness, justice, all sports and primarily love for his family will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. Greek blessing for the departing: "Sto kalo….!" A memorial service will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Joliet, Friday, November 1st from 11: 00 AM – 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tasso's memory.
