Family-Placed Death Notice

Amy Jones Ellis (Little Sister, Sister, Mama), 98, wife of the late Walter Ellis, Sr., departed this life peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2003. Born on February 22, 1905 in Tifton, GA to the late Jesse Norah and Janie Jones. She was the youngest of 14 children. She moved to Atlanta with her brother, Judson around 1917 and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in the Rockdale Community. She leaves to cherish her memory, six daughters and sons in-law, Alberta (Eugene) Shaw, Cincinnati, OH; Marie Mosley, Geraldine (Clark) Sharpe, Ruth Ellis, Ann Clarke, granddaughter, Jessica Coleman, Atlanta, GA; three sons and daughters in-law, Charles (Minnie) Ellis, Grady (Shirley) Ellis, Atlanta, GA; Jimmy (Corlis) Ellis, grandsons, Nashville, TN; daughter in-law, Amanda S. Ellis, Atlanta, GA; three nieces, Louise (Joe) Brown, Elizabeth, NJ; Myrtice Williams, Rheudean Boazman, Atlanta, GA; two nephews, Abraham (Priscilla) Dixon, Elizabeth, NJ; Judson (Annie) McKinney, of Atlanta, GA; three devoted friends, Buena Griffin, Jessie L. Phillips, Elizabeth Van Turner, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband of 45 years, Mama Ellis was predeceased by one daughter, Evelyn Arnold, and three sons, Walter Ellis, Jr., Jimmy C. Ellis and Russell Phillips/grandson. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 11 A.M., Simpson Street Church of Christ, 810 Simpson St., N.W., Atlanta, GA 30314. Dr. Andrews J. Hairston, Minister. The family is requested to assemble at the residence at 10 A.M. The body will be available for viewing at the church 1 hour before service. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund, Simpson Street Church of Christ. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 28 from 6 until 8 at Andrews Funeral Home, 116 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd., N.W., Atlanta, 404-522-7735.
