Allan Goldberg Obituary

Goldberg M.D., Dr. Allan M. Passed away at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights on November 13, 2011, a resident of Flossmoor since 1966 and practiced Internal Medicine in Homewood and Hazel Crest. Allan Goldberg was born in Chicago to Ralph and Anna Goldberg. He grew up in Lawndale, Albany Park and Hyde Par. He attended the University of Chicago, where he received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree with highest honors at the age of seventeen. Although he was deferred from military service because of having been admitted into medical school, he left school and enlisted in the United States Navy. After a year of study at Naval Research Lab in Washington D.C., Allan graduated first, in his class of one hundred and thirty five. Allan proudly served his country with honor aboard the aircraft carrier USS Badoeng Strait, where he managed radar, sonar, and electrical activities. Allan gave of his intelligence and compassion to every one of his patients. He asked only that we be well. He never missed a day of seeing his hospitalized patients and then returned to his office patients until all were seen. May we carry on the kindness and caring that he showed us to others. May God bless his soul.

Dr. Goldberg was a warm, caring, intelligent physican who I first met as a very scared child. Yet, he showed compassion and patience. He took great care of my family and I am very grateful. His example helped guide me into the healthcare field. An irreplaceable loss

Dr. Goldberg helped me greatly. When I was suffering and didn't know where to turn, I discovered Dr. Goldberg. He was the best doctor out there. He had me back to my old self within weeks. He was a no nonsense doctor with a sense of humor. He was a genuine man who took the time with his patients. I was so sad to hear about his passing. He is now with his beautiful wife in Heaven. My prayers go out to the Goldberg family.

Dr. Goldberg was a gentle, caring and professional physician and a wonderful human being. He made many house calls to assist my mother, and treated me for a severe intestinal disease. He advised me on my future profession. He introduced me to the University of Chicago as a patient and from that experience, I ended up with a full scholarship to U of I and eventually UIC Medical Center. You have been more than a doctor to us, Allan, you are a mensch and your life has been a gift to many. God bless you, gentle soul. I will never forget you.

I was a classmate of Allan and Gretchen at Univ of Chicago Medical School. I'm sorry not to be able to attend the funeral service, but I wish to extend my best wishes and condolences to their family and friends. They were a classy couple and well liked by all. There are not too many of our class ('52) remaining.

He will always be remembered in God's memory. And will never be forgotten. May the peace that only God can give excel all thought and bring you comfort at this time.

I was privileged to be Allan's friend for many years. I was very proud when later in life he chose me as his personal physician. We worked together in establishing the first Intensive Cardiac Care Unit at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. He was one of the brightest and most caring doctor I have ever met. "Allan, Noelle and I will remember you for the rest of our lives"
