I'm sorry to hear of Aileen's passing. Her acceptance speech when she received her Docent of the Year award in 2008 was one of the most inspiring and moving speeches I have ever heard. She was a woman who put her heart and soul in her work as a docent and she will be missed.

Aileen was a force of nature. I will never forget trying to keep up with her pace in the Auditorium during docent education. She awed the entire class with her energy, knowledge and speed. She ended up being my tester to be a docent. I was so scared. My classmates took pity on me. It turned out to be a remarkable experience and gave me the opportunity to call Aileen my friend. I loved talking with her of her travels, collecting eyeglasses for the world, and her remarkable life. I want to be like Aileen when I get older-- engaged, committed energetic and a lot of fun. I will miss her

Aileen, you will be greatly missed, as you brought joy and happiness to this world with your smile, your laugh and your wit. We will especially be deprived of your independent thought and behavior. I am certain you are enjoying your new view. May you be surrounded by flowers and art

My condolences to Aileen's family. I worked with her when I was Chair and she was the Departmental Administrator of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago. She had a true passion for people, for socializing, and for creating an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness. I will not soon forget Aileen.
