Aaron Jaffe, a highly respected former Illinois state legislator, distinguished jurist, and above all else, a loving family man, passed away on September 10, 2025, leaving a legacy of compassionate governance, unwavering advocacy, and deep devotion to his loved ones. He was 95. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 16, 1930, to Karl and Dora Jaffe, Aaron dedicated his life to public service. His legislative career, spanning from 1971 to 1985, was marked by a profound commitment to the people of Illinois, particularly the most vulnerable. As a legislator, he was a tireless champion for education, working to ensure that every child had access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code. His legislative achievements also included landmark bills in civil rights and equal opportunity, where he fought to dismantle systemic barriers and create a more just society for all. His commitment to justice continued on the bench, where he served as a Circuit Court judge for Cook County, ruling with sensitivity and compassion. He was known for his thoughtful approach, always prioritizing a deep understanding of the human element in every case. He later brought his integrity and a passion for public service to his role as chairman of the Illinois Gaming Board, where he worked to ensure integrity and fairness within the industry. Aaron's approach to governance and law was defined by empathy; he believed that the true measure of a society was how it treated its most underserved citizens. While his public life was marked by service and compassion, his private life was defined by the deep and abiding love he shared with his wife, Charlotte. For 74 years, their bond was the bedrock of his world, a testament to a true partnership built on steadfast devotion and mutual respect. He cherished Charlotte beyond measure, and their marriage stood as a beautiful example of a life well-lived and deeply loved. Together, they raised their children, Alan (Maria), Alisa (the late Robert) and Lowell (Sam). Above all else, Aaron was a devoted father and grandfather who found his greatest joy in his family. He was a man who was deeply adored by his family, and he never went a day without showing it and knowing it. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Karl, Ezra (Ellie), Madeleine, Drew, and Max and great-grandchildren, Charlie and Rosie. A private family funeral service will be held on September 15 ,2025. A Celebration of Life memorial reception will take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025 for all who wish to join together in honoring the life of a man who was loved and appreciated by so many.
