Olivia Sergot Obituary

Olivia Grace Sergot was a lover of life and through an extraordinary positive outlook, found joy, love and laughter in those around her and in her day to day adventures. Olivia led with her contagious smile that often lightened the mood, brought comfort and put people at ease. Olivia passed away on December 29, 2021 at the age of 19 following a courageous three + year battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her generosity of spirit by bringing joy, love and laughter every day of their lives.
Olivia was born in Evanston, Illinois on January 26, 2002 and lived in a richly diverse environment that early on in her life triggered both an appreciation for and an interest in different cultures, food and customs. From there Olivia's family moved to Grayslake, Illinois where Olivia literally blossomed on the restored native prairie lands in which she resided. Her days were spent outdoors learning about native plants, the environment and organic farming. She loved grabbing the fresh eggs in the community hen house and consumed every blueberry in sight on the way home from the farmers markets with her sister, Ava.
At 5, Olivia and her family moved to Oakville, Ontario Canada, just outside of Toronto where Olivia entered French immersion school and learned to excel at public speaking, often competing in both English and French. Living in Canada for ten years provided opportunities for Olivia to travel from one end of Canada to the other, growing her appreciation for the environment and the beauty of our planet. In addition, music, art and competitive dance where daily parts of Olivia's life that she passionately enjoyed along with her sister.
Visiting India, Turkey, Poland, Dubai and Kenya were some of the treasured moments she shared with her family as her thirst for traveling took off. In India, Olivia's only ask was to visit the last home of Gandhi and to trace his steps leading to the site of his assassination.
When the family relocated back to the Chicago area in 2017, Olivia enrolled in New Trier High School where she became a member of the DECA program and continued her interest in dance at Extensions Dance Company in Chicago.
In 2018 Olivia was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer, Wilms tumor that gave her and her family a new purpose and mission. Throughout her over three year journey she never lost her beautiful smile or her passion to live. Olivia was admitted to Texas Christian University in the fall of 2020 and was overjoyed to become a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. A relapse forced Olivia to return home for treatment but that didn't stop her from attending TCU again, in the fall of 2021, only to return home 60 days later due to complications with her ongoing cancer treatment.
Throughout her cancer journey, Olivia never stopped looking to the future. Olivia wanted to live and was determined to continue on as she gracefully dealt with cancer, treatment side effects and hospitalizations.
Friendships were important to Olivia and she cherished those who surrounded her every day and those who were separated by distance. Her life was enriched daily by the experiences and adventures with friends.
Last but not least, Olivia loved her family and pets. She's survived by her parents, Mark & Cindy and sister Ava along with her grandmother Casey Sergot, grandmother Mary Ellen Hoopes & grandfather Joe Hoopes; aunts and uncles including: Debbie & Sal Gagliardi, Meg and Clyde Ainley, Barb Hancock, Michael Sergot, Christine & Alan Bending, Scott Sergot, Matthew & Wendy Sergot, Cousins Danny & Diane Ainley and pets Wrigley, Rusty, Millie and Addy.
