Donald Worden Obituary

Worden, Donald Griswold was born June 13, 1932 in Chicago. He passed away suddenly on October 3, 2021 due to cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse "Loyal" Worden and Martha "Helen" (Griswold) Worden, and his brother Roger Loyal Worden. Surviving are his loving wife Irmgard ("Irma") Leitner, his sister Julia Helen Worden, and four daughters Donna, Jessica (Michael) McCarthy, Nancy (Andrew) Huckaba, and Janet Street, and grandchildren Patrick (Diane) McCarthy, Jameson (Jessica) Huckaba, Jennifer (Charles) Eidson, Andrea (Jay) Rome, David McCarthy, Alexander Huckaba, and Jonathan McCarthy and eight great-grandchildren. He graduated in 1953 from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science, Engineering Physics where he joined Sigma Nu and the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1981 after attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. After graduation, he worked for Nuclear-Chicago (Siemens) before joining Continental X-Ray Corporation, founded by his father in 1934. He was President of Continental X-Ray until 1988 then CEO and Owner of Luma Metalcraft, Inc. Throughout his life and until recently, Donald played tennis at a competitive level. He met his third wife, Irmgard (Irma) through tennis at The Fullerton Tennis Club in Chicago (now gone). They were married in 1997. Irma and Donald enjoyed tennis and bridge together for many happy years. A memorial service will be held 12pm to 4pm Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, 1407 W Washington Blvd, Chicago, IL 60607.
