Vincent Haynes Obituary

Haynes, Vincent

Vincent Haynes, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. He was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. He was the oldest brother to Frank, Norma, Linda, Michael and Harry and married to his wife Mary for 67 wonderful years. Vincent was father to Catherine Will and Craig Haynes, grandfather to Erin Midtlyng, Alaina Provenza, Grayson and Julia Haynes, Great-Grandfather to Asher and Darrow Midtlyng. Vincent left Barbados as a teenager and became a merchant sailor in the Caribbean for 5 years; He survived a shipwreck and was marooned on Las Rocas in the Caribbean on his first voyage. He emigrated to Canada to continue his education and met Mary at the vocational business school they both attended in Toronto. They married in 1953 and emigrated to the US, moving to Chicago, Illinois soon after. They remained in Chicago for 64 years, then moving to Alexandria, Virginia for their health and to be closer to family. Professionally, he was a career comptroller, as he was a skillful accountant and loved numbers. He was a gifted athlete in cricket and soccer. Vince loved training thoroughbred horses, card games and golf. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. His friends and family love him dearly and will surely miss his persistence, tenacity, patience and his love for them
