McGivney Jr, Reverend Thomas Francis

Reverend Thomas Francis McGivney Jr., former pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lockport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was 82 years old. Reverend Thomas McGivney Jr. was born on June 5, 1943, in Evergreen Park, IL. He attended Visitation Grammer School, Chicago, Leo High School, Chicago, and DePaul University, Chicago where he received a B.S. in Commerce Accountancy in 1975. He attended the seminary at Sacred Heart School of Theology. Father McGivney was ordained to the priesthood on June 1, 1991, by Bishop Joseph L. Imesch at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus Catholic Church, Joliet. He served the Diocese of Joliet where he was Transitional Deacon at St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Hinsdale, January 1991 – June 1991, Parochial Vicar at St. Michael Parish in Wheaton, June 1991 – June 1996, Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Addison, June 1996 – June 2000, Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Lockport June 2000 – until retiring in June of 2013. He had a deep love and devotion to God, his church family and his extended family whom he loved dearly. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and found great joy in breaking bread and celebrating outdoor Masses with his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. Sr. and Anne Rita (nee McNamara) McGivney. Survived by his devoted friend, Paul Kluczynski; his loving siblings, John (Marita) McGivney, Robert (Barbara) McGivney, Donna (William) Vanderbilt; cherished nephews and nieces, Michael, Kristin, Andrew, Kaleigh, Ashley, Toni, and John; and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 1140 W. Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60607 in Fr. McGivney's name would be greatly appreciated. Fr. Thomas McGivney Jr. will lie in state on Monday, December 22, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church 500 S. Jefferson St, Lockport, IL 60441 from 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Mass will be celebrated by The Most Reverend Dennis Spies Auxiliary Bishop Diocese of Joliet. Interment Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Chicago.
