Thomas was a classmate of mine at St. Patrick HS in Chicago. We graduated in 1966, and the attached photo is his Senior Portrait photo from the 1966 Shamrock Yearbook. I have read all of the memories about Thomas that others have posted. One person mentioned Thomas being involved in activities at Jefferson Park in Chicago. Another 1966 St. Pat's graduate - Patrick Doran (also deceased) and I played baseball and basketball at Jefferson Park for our JHS years, and I wonder if our team played Tom's team. Thomas was a *very* active student at St. Pat's. He was on the football team for all four years there, was a Homeroom Officer, a member of the Benildus and Monogram Clubs, the Student Council, and the St. Pat's Track Team.
I did not know until today that Tom had returned to St. Pat's and taught there for so many years. He was a great guy, all of his fellow students knew, liked, and respected him, and he will be missed by his surviving classmates.

You and I first met when Tommy, you and I worked at Gingiss Tux Rental in the Loop.I was in Law School at DePaul, and Tommy was an undergrad.
As you know, Tommy's mother Anna Marie and my mother Annabelle were first cousins.
The Thiess's and Mahoney's would get together once a month al least and have great times laughing and eating.
My condolences to you, Eileen. Joe and all the Mahoney's.
I loved Tommy like a brother.

Dear Mahoney Family,
I worked with Tom for 10 years at St. Patrick. He was always very welcoming, especially to new teachers. He was someone who could always point a "rookie" in the right direction. We always joked together about his college graduation class ring, in that it was from 1970, when I was born. We had great laughs together which I will never forget. I wish you all God's peace and hold you in my prayers.

Thanks for all the happy memories, Tom, from working on Guys & Dolls together to sharing a laugh at our doorways during change of classes. You have always been a caring, supportive friend. Enjoy your new life. My sincere condolences Karan, the 2 Joes, & all the Mahoney family. John Wenglinski

When I was young, I remember Tom coming to save us from the local thugs in the locker room at the Jefferson Park gym. I was never so happy to see Joe's brother. Throughout the years, Tom always had time to spend with me when we would meet at Babe's and have a beer. He never criticized; only expressed concern and would laugh a laugh that was unique to himself. I will miss that laugh and all that went with it. Know that Tom is at peace and no one ever dies when they are loved. Thanks for everthing, Tom.

My deepest sympathy to Karan and family. I have very many fond memories of Tom who became one of my best friends in our freshman year at St. Pat's. Tom and I hung out a lot in high school and years afterwards. I got to know his family well and many of his friends in his parish. Along with some other friends, he encouraged me to play football at St. Pat's. Whenever we saw one another later in life, Tom was always gracious, kind, and genuinely concerned about me and my life. He was a great guy and athlete. He loved his family deeply (I remember the fight he had sticking up for little brother Joe in pick up basketball at St. Pat's) and St. Pat's. Rest in peace, dear friend.

My deepest sympathy go out to the Mahoney family today. I had the great opportunity of having Mr. Mahoney as my business law teacher at St. Pat's. He was certainly a class act and a funny guy. No SHAMROCK will ever forget him.

On day one of Freshman football, Coach Mahoney looked us in the eyes and shared a simple fact. He said that if we stick-it-out, our experience will allow us to meet friends that we will hold dear for the rest of our lives.
How profound and true that statement was and I'll never forget it !
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Mahoney family at the difficult time of loss.
May Coach Mahoney's soul rest in peace.

Karen, Anita, Joe, Margie, & family;
Please accept my sincere condolences. Tom will be so missed. I will keep fond memories of him from Newland Street, I.C., St.Pat's,Gingiss, the parties and picnics, Cubs & Bear games, and some the places we stopped at over the years. Tom & I took the Real Estate course together and he and I drove down to McCormick Place to take the test. He really made the most of that pursuit. As he stated on his real estate web-site, he was an "All-Chicago-Kind-of Guy." He really was. Please take care during this difficult time.

Husband, father, grandfather, brother son, and teacher; Tom fulfilled all of these roles with style, grace and accomplishment. He was a credit to his faith as well as his family.
The Irish, as you well know; never say "goodbye" to those they love and care for, but rather "till we meet again" in the sincere belief they will continue to seek out each other's company. So our faith and our desire as well as our ancestry tell us this is just "till we meet again".
May God bless you,
Bonnie and Bob
P.S. Joe would be so proud I got this "report" in on time!

We have lost one of our best friends and the hole that has been left in our hearts will be hard to mend. We remember the good times we had at the farm, at family get-togethers, at corned-beef and cabbage nights and the love and fun that our children shared with Eileen and Joe. May you rest in peace, pal.

To Karen, Eileen, Joe, and their spouses -
Tom will be sorely missed by us - his laughter, his goodness, his bear hugs, his being there at our get togethers, his delight in family and friends...his jitter-bugging, just him....his passing has left a sore part in our hearts....one of our group is now going to have to take care of watching over the rest of us down here until we can all be together again:)

Karen, Joe, and all of the Mahoney Family--
A great colleague and wonderful friend! It was always a pleasure to be with him--in the Faculty Room for a coffee and chat or a pub for a brew and laughs. He will be missed!
My prayers for the entire Mahoney family in this time of sadness. As for Tom, he doesn't need my prayers. I am sure he is "up there" right now having a cold one with Dennis Miller and a few of the other lads. God be with you all!
