Robert Adelsperger Obituary

Adelsperger, Robert J. of Chicago, beloved son of Florence Davis and James Adelsperger, brother of George Davis and Suzanne Frankum, uncle to caring nieces and nephews, predeceased by his devoted friend and companion, Pierre Doriot, and special long time friend of the DeVos Family of Palos Heights, passed away on May 18, 2006. Adelsperger was a University of Illinois alumnus having received his Bachelor's degree and his Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Mr. Adelsperger worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago in a variety of capacities for some 41 years including as the former special collections librarian at the Library and associate professor. Mr. Adelsperger was a life member of the American Library Association, a member of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors, a co-founder of the Iota of the Illinois chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and an active member of a variety of book and literary societies in Chicago including the Friends of Literature, the Chicago Foundation for Literature, the Society of Midland Authors, Cliff Dwellers, and the Caxton Club. Mr. Adelsperger was an active member and former Deacon of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beverly. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9401 Oakley, Chicago. The family expresses gratitude to the Concord Extended Care Facility in Oak Lawn, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
