“Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people stay for awhile, and give deeper understanding of what truly is important in this life…They touch our souls. We gain strength from the footprints they left on our hearts and we will never be the same”…
I am so sad to hear about the passing of **Ricky** my little star… In all he did he was an AWESOME person, from the cutest little boy on Cermak Rd. walking home from school with me to the Wonderful Man he became… He was able to touch people with just his smile…The world is a better place for having him here…Our loss is truly heavens gain. I believe we will all be together again…until that time I will hold his memory in my heart and you Pat, Jr, and Deb in my thoughts and prayers with love xoxo

My deepest sympathy to Deb, Mr and Mrs Wozniak and all other family and friends. As part of God's plan, Rick's journey was over sooner that we would have liked but there were so many wonderful memories that we will always cherish: St. Stephen's skating parties, alumni dances, disco dances, hockey games, hanging out at Barrett's Park, talking at the Jewel while you restocked shelves, hooking me up with my first convertible, hearing the great places to visit while in Hawaii, etc. My dear friend you certainly will be missed. I'm picturing you relaxing on a cloud or perhaps watching/playing hockey in the heavens.
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you!!!

Rick and I were grammar school classmates. What I will remember about him was his love of NHL hockey and especially the Black Hawks. After grammar school we drifted apart and reconnected on Facebook. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, friends and all those who knew him. The best way to remember Rick is to take the best parts of him, as you remember him, and make that a part of who you are. RIP Rick.

I will ALWAYS keep the memory of Rick in my mind, heart and prayers. May his family, friends, co-workers and especially his beloved wife take some small measure of comfort in knowing that my life was made 'better' for having known, gone to school with, and having been friends with Rick. Thank you all for sharing him with all of us over the years! RIP Rick ~ the hat trick of life was yours for sure!

I consider myself to have been blessed to know Rick from our first days in school together at St. Stephen (Slovenian) Catholic School in our shared 'Heart of Chicago' neighborhood. He & his parents lived just down the block from where my Mom (RIP 1/20/2011) worked at the neighborhood pharmacy, Jelinek Drug Store. Sure, Rick teased me: I was a girl, for pete's sake. He also had another way to get under my skin, by giving me a 'hard time' about being so much younger than everyone else in our class because I had been 'double promoted'. Through all the teasing, though, I remember many instances where not so many others were around, where we got along just fine. Later on in life, when my Mom began working at the Chef's Kitchen department of the small neighborhood Jewel Food Store just a block away, Rick also had a part-time job there as well for awhile (I think ;D) Also, my Mom belonged to several fraternal groups at our parish, and Rick's grandma Mary Jagar was also a member of these groups. As time passed, we both went off to different colleges in 1979: Rick chose to stay home and attend DePaul University; I went away to the College (now University) of St. Francis. Somehow we'd see each other every now and again, but we were young adults starting our lives, and we drifted apart. We'd see each other every once in awhile at a Blackhawks game, or if he was helping his Grandpa or Grandma Jagar at some function at St. Stephen's, but eventually our friendship drifted apart over time. It wasn't until the advent of Facebook that we reconnected as friends, and by that time we were both married etc. Still, we kept in touch with each other now and then, and I was always happy to do so. He asked about how our kids & my husband, also a DePaul alum (BS/IS and MS/SE), were doing. He'd always ask me how my Mom was doing - he was just a really nice guy like that. He will be missed by me every time I drive by his parent's (old) place across the street from Barrett Park ... but his smile will live in my heart through friendship until it is the end of my own life's journey.

Deb, our deepest condolences on your loss of such a wonderful man. I remember the great time we had together visiting you and Rick in Chicago and going to the Wings / Blackhawks game. Kathy and Rick had so much fun with their rivalry and Rick lost his bet and had to wear a Red Wings Jersey to the Chicago game. I'm sure Kathy and Rick have found each other in Heaven and are having a great time reminising old times. Our prayers are with you at this awful time. Please feel free to call me anytime. Ken,Amber and Trevor and Kathy in Heaven.

The measure of a man like Rick can not be summed up in a few lines. I didn't know him well, but I Know how much he was loved and I know that he made people feel loved. A huge loss for his family. They are in my prayers.
