I worked with Pastora in SSA at the University of Chicago as her secretary until 1976. She was always there for her students and her friends. She also asked me to help in the research of one of her books. I only found out today about her passing. Pastora, you are indeed a class act and I am grateful to have known you!

Dr. Cafferty was my favorite professor at the University of Chicago from 1987 to 1988, where she taught classes in Urban Policy and Chicago politics. She was an amazing mentor to many students and never forgot the smallest acts of kindness! Due to illness, she was unable to attend the most recent Cafferty lecture, however, many of us (her former students) were present. It is a testament to her life, her teaching, mentoring and warmth that she shared with us all!! God bless her soul and her precious memory!

My sympathies to Rafael and the rest of Pastora's family in this sad time. However I know from personal experience that Pastora gave enough to everyone she touched to help get them through almost anything.

I only regret that I knew her and her her first husband Mike for such unfairly short times.

My best to all that were touched by her.

Pastora was my great aunt's (Sr. Mary Lourdes, OSB) favorite student while she was at Sacred Heart in Alabama so my family knew her in her formative years. She was always held in high regard and given as an example of what all the young ladies in our family should aspire to. I am so sorry to hear she has passed. We only get so many lights that twinkle in our existence, and she was one of them.
