Norris "Mike" Love

Norris Love Obituary

Love, Norris "Mike" Norris "Mike" Love died in his sleep on March 27, at home. Married to his wife, soulmate and best friend, Marcena (Marcie) Waterman Love, since 1959; they had three daughters, Cathie Love (George Berg), Anne Love Marso (Bob) and Sally Love (Steve Fabrizio); and was "G-Duck" to six grandchildren, Katie and Janie Marso, Sara and Caroline Berg-Love, Nikki and Kenny Love-Fabrizio. Mike was a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Princeton University and Stanford Business School. Mike's career started at D'Arcy Advertising and then on to Campbell-Mithun Advertising. He was asked to become Dean of Lake Forest School of Management, where he led the drive for accreditation. Mike was an avid fisherman, and loved salmon fishing around the world, as well as trout fishing. He enjoyed curling, hunting, and golf. Because of his deep concern for the environment, Mike was a founder of the Lake Michigan Federation, a member of the Chicago Clean Air Coordinating Committee, the Anglers Club of Chicago, Des Plaines Wetlands Conservancy, Trout Unlimited and the Shedd Aquarium. He was a leader of the Chicago Zoological Society (Brookfield Zoo), serving as a trustee for 38 years. A man of deep wisdom, Mike eschewed the spotlight, but was always a strong presence behind-the-scenes. From his strategic work on many boards, to supporting and encouraging his wife and daughters in their work, Mike strove to make the world a better place. He was fiercely loyal to family and friends and was always there for them with words of advice and unconditional love. Mike and Marcie were inveterate travelers and passed the appreciation and understanding of the world's interconnectedness and beauty to their children, grandchildren and friends. Visitation held Sunday, March 30, 2014 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the church. Services will be held at the Winnetka Congregational Church, 725 Pine St., Winnetka, IL on Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Chicago Zoological Society, 3300 Golf Road, Brookfield, IL 60513 or Choate Rosemary Hall, 333 Wallingford, CT 06492.

Rest in peace Mike - you will be sorely missed by many including the two of us. So many long conversations solving the problems of the world - sometimes even the universe - and so many good and great laughs with you and Marcie. Thanks for those memories. I was glad to call you friend since grammar school and so glad that you and Rudy became friends later in life - friends and fishing buddies who shared many laughs together on your trips as well. You will be missed, dear friend, but you left permanent footprints on our souls. Joy and Rudy
