I have many, many fond memories of Martin Tunney, going back to some of my very earliest childhood memories. He was always a familiar fixture around my house and my grandparents' house. In many ways he was like an uncle.

While he was typically curmudgeonly and opinionated with a cutting wit and great laugh, it was his kind and thoughtful tenderness toward my younger brother and me after our mother died, that endeared me to Martin.

I still laugh when I think of the heated debates we had with each when I was a rebellious teenager, over current events....like Nixon, the Vietnam war, "long haired hippie freaks" as he called my friends and me, and rock music. Anytime I knew he'd be visiting I'd come prepared to fight the good fight and be loaded up with all the sarcastic comebacks I could muster, just to have the satisfaction of causing him to get (more) red in the face!

May he rest in peace! (altho I have a feeling he's giving St. Peter a run for his money!!)

Francie and Pat, and families.....you can be comforted that there are many whose lives were touched by Martin Tunney, who will remember him with a smile, as I do.
