The first time I ever peered through a 35mm camera with a zoom lens was courtesy of Mr. Lannan and his Olympus. Of course I was warned not to monkey around with it! He coined my favorite nickname of all time: "The Designated Hitter" for my little brother Bobby. I cherish the memory of driving down to Dauphin Island in the Winnebego and seeing the Golf of Mexico during Xmas vacation of 1976 and picking up Lisa at Purdue University and Steve at Spring Hill College on the way - my firsts for all of the above. Mayor Daley died and we watched it on the news in the hotel room - that was BIG news! We had the family German shepherd, Zelda, and her new born pup Josephine with us and I witnessed Mr. Lannan potty train the puppy that week. I never had a puppy before and that week was wonderful. We made a "Charlie Brown" Xmas tree out of some beach shrub and decorated it with homemade paper ornaments. It was an unforgettable experience. Thank you Lannans - I love you all!
