Lance Rodgers Obituary

Rodgers, Lance R.

Lance R. Rodgers of Barrington, Illinois passed away after a brief illness on November 30, 2023, in Evanston, Illinois. He was born August 21, 1949 in Chicago to Sherwin and Lolita (nee Raclin) Rodgers. Lance in his adult years became a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Lance is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan (nee Ferreira): children, Kyle, Eloise, and Matthew; and sister, Jill Rodgers Wansea (Late John). He was preceded in death by his parents.

After graduating as valedictorian of Highland Park High School Class of 1967, Lance attended Harvard University and then Harvard Law School, graduating with honors. He began practicing law in 1975 as an associate at Sachnoff Schrager Jones Weaver, eventually becoming a senior partner and chairman of the Tax Department until 2006. He then worked as a senior partner and chairman of the Tax and Business Planning Group at Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg until July of 2023. One of his most memorable cases involved the reversal of the Chicago restaurant ban on foie gras. Another rewarding case was the representation of three WWII veterans who had served together in France and has raised $250,000 to replace the stained-glass window of an 11th century church bombed by the Nazis.

Lance was a member of Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, a Board member of Hands of Hope, a Board member of the 222 Foundation, and a founding member of the Outpost Bible Church in McHenry.

Visitation will be from 4pm 8pm Friday, December 8, 2023, at The Village Church of Barrington, 1600 East Main Street (Lake Cook Road), Barrington. Visitation will continue at 12pm on Saturday, December 9th at the Church followed by a funeral service at 1pm. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

Lance will always be remembered fondly by the whole team at D´Artagnan. He believed in us and in the cultural heritage of gastronomy when everybody else in Chicago had given up. And he prevailed! Thanks to Lance, foie gras is on all the major menus-legally- in Chicago today. Our heart goes to his wife and family. D'Artagnan has made a $500 donation to Hands of Hope in his memory.
