Joseph Monastero Obituary
Cav. Uff. Joseph Monastero, OMRI, a prominent figure in Chicago's culinary and philanthropic communities as co-founder and owner of Monastero's Restaurant, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 7th. Joseph is survived by his wife, Martha (née. Finch); son Joseph Sebastiano Monastero, OSI; daughter Maria Giorgia (née Monastero) and Mark Edward Orszula; daughter Elena Rosalia (née Monastero) and Thomas Edward Ryan; grandchildren Mark Edward Orszula III, Thomas Edward Ryan V, Gina Giuliana Orszula, William Joseph Ryan, and Joseph John Orszula; sister-in-law Elizabeth (née. Fischer) Monastero; nieces and nephews Maria Elisabeth (née. Monastero) and Rosalio Bueno, Sebastiano 'Iano' and Dawn (née. Mossman) Monastero, Alicia (née. Monastero) and Joseph Akers, Roberto and Anne (née. Gaurano) Monastero. He is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, and godchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11th from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 North Cicero Avenue, Chicago. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 12th at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 North Sauganash Avenue, Chicago, at 10:00am (musical prelude at 9:30). Entombment All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Joseph's name be made to Queen of All Saints Basilica, the Rotary International Foundation, or the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Fund for Vocal Recordings – Cedille Records NPF.
