I don't know who in the universe will ever read this.... While driving today I was listening to WOSU and John came to mind. In 1981 I was a new mom at home with our daughter nearly 24/7. I loved that time in my life and it was made all the sweeter by John McGrody's choice of and introduction to classical music on WOSU. It was the background of our lives. I loved John's voice and remember it fondly. He taught me so much about classical music. He introduced me to the Brandenburg Concertos, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Handel, Rachmaninoff, Copland, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, the Bachs, and so many more composers and their music.
Then one day, years later, when he should have been on air, he wasn't. There seemed to be a a disquiet in the studio as someone else took over for him. Later they announced that he'd been riding his bike to work and had been in an accident. He never returned to announcing at WOSU.
His leaving was a sad loss to listeners and to the world. I still think of him sometimes and remember the beauty of his voice and the joy he brought to me with his choice of music and the ways he quietly introduced and educated his listeners.
He is not forgotten but fondly remembered. I miss him.

Dear Lisa,
You may recall we met sitting at the same table with you and John at the reception following the memorial program for Ida Terkel. We count ourselves among your many appreciative WFMT listeners who were shocked and saddened to hear of John's death. We wish for you comfort in your loss and strength in the days ahead.
With sincere sympathy,
Peg and Martin Deppe

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your dear one. We will always remember you and John as deeply in love with each other....trundling home with a lovely old Persian rug from the antique show. We love you dearly and ache for you.
Always,

It was my honor and privilege to work with Jud at WOSU-FM. I learned so much from him, and find many "Jud-isms" sprinkled throughout my conversations.
Lisa, We pray you will find peace and comfort in this time of sorrow. All of you are daily in our thoughts and prayers.
With deepest sympathy,
Boyce Lancaster

Lisa, My heart-felt condolences for your loss. I once stood where you stand today, having lost a young husband, too. Some people say that 'time heals all wounds' but I think it is love that heals. In time you will get past wishing you had had more time. The time you spent together will be treasured and cherished. I enjoyed John's program and am missing his opinions and interesting notes about new music already. All the best to you and the rest of John's family as you cope and live each coming day with his memory in your hearts and minds. Sincerely,
Judy Solomon

While I hadn't met John personally, I do feel that both he and his wife Lynn are my friends, since I listen to them so often on WFMT. I always enjoyed his CD reviews, and I will really miss them. My condolences to Lynn, whom I have listened to since she joined WFMT.
