Dear family and friends,

thanks everyone who came to my dad's visitation and/or funeral and/or who wrote here in the guestbook and/or who thought of and remembered my dad in their own way.

the visitation and funeral were both beautiful. i believe dad would have approved. his vfw post members attended the visitation and presented a touching eulogy, commemoration and reading of dad's military service and played taps live (please forgive me if i have used the wrong words/terms).

dad's funeral on monday also went beautifully: the weather was sunny and balmy, we had a police escort for the procession from the funeral home to St. William Church for a lovely Mass and then to the cemetery for a graveside burial; as part of the procession after church we went past two family homes where dad had lived in his earlier years. Eight pall-bearers (my brothers, uncle, cousins and nephews) carried my/our father/brother/uncle to his grave. The deacon led us in prayers. Two servicemen conducted a military service; one, the bugler, played taps and then the U.S. flag that had been draped over my father's casket was ceremoniously folded by both of these officers and presented to my brother, who accepted it on behalf of our family. the music was haunting and i will never forget glancing to my left and seeing the bugler off at an appropriate distance from the graveside, playing those beautiful notes that were carried by the gentle breeze. this poignant image and the sound accompanying it were quite remarkable and will live on in my memory.

we, family, loved ones and friends, circled our dearly departed loved one (who was soon to be a nonagenarian!), we circled him with love and we offered flowers, tears, prayers, kisses, goodbyes, blessings and still more love. "We love you John Marlovitz forever and ever." Love, Linda

ps. i apologize for any misspellings, i don't use spellcheck ;)

Linda, John, Jim, dear cousins, my love and heartfelt hugs and prayers with you on the passing of your dad. May the angels in heaven look after him. Take comfort in knowing he is in the best place he can be. I fondly look back at the times when we were together and that dreaded light bar from his movie camera. I smile even now thinking of those times. Love to you all and your families. In there in spirit of love and family....Cousin Mary
