Janos Molnar Obituary

Molnar, Dr. Janos Age 85, retired Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at UIC passed away Monday, December 31st 2012. Beloved husband of Roberta (nee Duskin) for 33 years; loving father of Peter (JoAnn) and Reka; dearest grandfather of Ashley, Peter and Alex; uncle of nieces and nephews in Hungary and friend to many; former spouse of Zelma. Janos had emigrated from Budapest, Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He he earned his Phd in Biochemistry from Northwestern University. He personified the Chicago Lakefront and the outdoor activities it offered. He could be seen daily walking the bike path or riding his bike, inspiring his neighbors and passersby with his stamina. No day of the year was too hot, too cold, or too wet to enjoy the outdoors. As recently as a few weeks ago Janos had enjoyed cross country skiing, tennis, racquetball, kayaking, bicycle riding, rollerblading, and soccer, among other sports. He would ride his bike everywhere up to 20 miles a day even into his eighties. Janos loved to cook and bake Hungarian dishes, which he enjoyed sharing with friends and even strangers. He also loved cultural activities, holding season passes the the Lyric Opera, symphony and various theaters until recently. Janos also was an avid learner and reader, continuing to educate himself on diverse topics. He seemed to possess boundless energy and enthusiasm for life. Janos was a kind and gentle man. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date in Budapest, Hungary.
