James Thompson Obituary
Fr. James Gregory Thompson, OSA, age 77, died Feb 25. Professed vows in the Augustinian Order in 1963. Director of Formation (Pre-Novitiate, Novitiate, Post-Novitiate) at various points in his ministerial life. Coordinator of Continuing Care at Southdown Institute (Ontario, Canada). Chaplain at Little Company of Mary Hospital. Spiritual Director. Loving son of the late John and Lucille (Lukosunas) Thompson. Visitation Tuesday (March 2, 2021) 5-7 p.m., followed by Mass 7 p.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago. Livestream of the Funeral Mass will be available beginning at 7 p.m. using the link: https://www.lumistreaming.com/wpstream/thompson/ Burial 10 a.m. Wednesday, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Augustinians, 5401 S. Cornell Ave., Chicago, IL 60615-5664 to support care of elderly friars and seminary formation of young friars appreciated. Jim, thank you for all the good you have done as an Augustian! I first met you when I was a young man of 18, you were newly ordained and 27 at St.. Rita Parish! We go back a few years! May the angels come to greet you and bring you to paradise! I'll never forget you, nor will our family!

God bless Fr Thompson or as we all knew him (J.T.) in his and our younger years at St Rita of Cascia Church in Chicago. He touched the lives of so many young adults as he ministered to our parish. He was so much fun and so in tune to what the younger members of the parish needed. I worked at the rectory through high school and he just brought so much life to the parish. He must be celebrating in heaven with his family and so many other brothers in the Augustinian community.
