Gerald "Jerry" Dale Benkendorf, born June 30, 1939, at rest May 10, 2025. Jerry was the adoring husband and best friend of Del Rita (Di Benedetto) for 44 years; cherished son of the late Edward and Stephanie Benkendorf nee Krupa; baby brother of the late Ken and Sue Benkendorf, and the late Leroy and Arlene Benkendorf; loving son-in-law to the late Frank "Chico" and Marie Di Benedetto; fond brother-in-law of Peter Di Benedetto, Cheryl Kluck, and Michele "Mickey" and Bill Blevins; best friends to Peter and the late Laura Strohmayer, Pam Weber, and Shirley Montalvo.

Jerry proudly served in the US Army. He was employed at Appleton Electric for 46 years where he held various positions within the company. Appleton is where he met Del Rita and a true love story began for both of them. Jerry was an avid golfer, as well as a devoted Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Jerry is survived by his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Del Rita and family would like to thank the medical staff of Pulmonologists, Cardiologists and all who attended his care at Resurrection Hospital. Special thanks and prayers to Dr. Alba Molina, Dr. Larry Jankelowitz, Dr. Andrew Sherman and Dr. Rickyn Patel. A very special thank you to Rainbow Hospice for the comfort care that was provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to the American Heart and COPD foundations.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W. Talcott Road, Park Ridge, IL.

Funeral prayers will be on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with procession to follow to Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery for interment.
