Frank Guide Obituary

Guide, Frank William "Bill"

Frank William "Bill" Guide, age 91, of Chicago, IL, died peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2021. Beloved husband of Dolores, nee Slattery, for 73 years; loving father of Bill (Laura), Debbi (Jim) Brasher, Joe (late Janet) and Pat (Cheryl). Cherished grandfather of 11; great-grandfather of 14. Dear brother to Linda

Kemp, Frances Cleave and the late Joe and Sally Guide. He was a small business owner and well known in the Garfield Ridge Community.

He volunteered his time as a youth baseball coach at Vittum Park where he would also go on to start the Vittum Park Vikings wrestling program. He coached for 23 years and had a tremendous impact on many young men in the neighborhood, who affectionately refer to him as "Gramps." In 1994 the Chicago City Council recognized his community involvement by naming the block where he lived Bill "Gramps" Guide Ave. In 1995 The Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation recognized his contributions to youth wrestling by naming him a Grand Marshal at their state tournament. He was a golf enthusiast who enjoyed playingevery Sunday with his sons and friends and was able to card two hole-in-ones during his playing days.

Above all else, Gramps loved his family, and loved being around them. Sunday was special because he and his wife hosted pasta dinners every Sunday for many years for his children and grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will take place on Sunday, August 1 st at 5 pm at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. There will be a reception for family and friends at the church starting at 4:30 pm. The church is located at 4810 S. Leamington in Chicago. Family and friends are invited to a celebratory dinner immediately following mass. Dinner will be held at Guide's Sports Club, which is located at 5540 Archer Avenue in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Gramp's memory to Father Flanagan's Boys Home in Boys Town, Nebraska, www.boystown.org.
