My family has many fond memories of Elias. First as a coach for my brother, Robbie Mack, in the late 60's and then as a mentor and friend to myself and my husband, John Brinkworth, while teaching and coaching in the PE department.
Elias will be missed. May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.

As the father of one of Coach George's wrestlers, my son and I have special memories of the coach. My son Howard Rosenblum and his best friend Tony Barksdale wrestled for the coach for four years. They are both deaf and the coach showed patience in working with the boys. He has an honored place in their development not only as wrestlers, but as young men. Both went on to graduate college and my son Howard completed Kent Law School and passed the bar.

Coach George, thanks for being a friend to my dad, both personally and on his football staff, and thanks for all the lessons and laughs on the football and wrestling teams, in class, and on the beachfront service crew! Many of my favorite high school memories have Coach George in them.

I worked for Coach George my entire four years at ETHS. He was an inspiration and a mentor to my dear brother, Mike Lorig, who was one of the many State Champions that he coached. I send my deepest sympathy to your entire family. He was a wonderful man who touched so many lives..

Rest in peace. Coach George taught me how to swim. He took the time to work one on one with me. He told me not to listen to those who teased me about not being able to swim. It took several weeks, but I passed the test in the "big" pool with flying colors! You will always have a special place in my heart!

Coach George was an inspiration to many young wrestlers, including me. He taught discipline, personal responsibility, and self reliance - all things which served me well as an adult. Godspeed Coach!

I was taught many lessons from coach Elias George even in the short two years that I'd grappled.
In these last days... The Devil is definitely in a predicament and getting ready to be pinned: because in my opinion...God and his angels have a new coach who did a hell of a job training many mortals on how to be decent God fearing human beings...who had learned from Elias George on how to wrestle and grapple their way through this Life!!!...Coach EG..R.I.P!

Coach George was the kind of person who comes along every once in a while and brings out the best in his athletes. God Bless you, Coach.

Julie,
So very sorry for your loss. Reading the obit. for your Dad prompted me to respond.......what a life story! The oldest of 15! An amazing athlete and coach! I can only imagine how much he must have enjoyed your family, Julie. I pray that your memories will be of some comfort. Sincerely, Judy Weithman (Victorian jewelry dealer)

Coach George's passing has brought more tears to so many kids and adults who were fortunate to be coached by him.
He helped so many kids stay focused and literally took kids off the streets. He will be missed always, but most of all he left his mark in this world and made a difference in our community. RIP COACH

My senior year at ETHS, I had the pleasure of assisting Coach George for my Honors PE class. I'd heard about him, but as a female athlete, had never been under his tutelage. I learned a most important character trait under Coach George. INTEGRITY. It stuck with me for life. Blessed to have had the pleasure of his guidance.
May his family be comforted by the kind words of so many about this wonderful soul.

Love this guy, my mentor in HS, as an intern teacher at ETHS ,a fellow colleague also we worked together in the 1968 Olympic Wrestling Trials @ Northwestern. Hopefully, some of the St Joan of Arc football players will have fond memories of him as well. I'll always remember him, even more so now...Passed away on my birthday. July 26th and yes I'm 73 today. Rest in wrestling paradise, coach. My sincere condolences to the family.

I'm grateful for the few interactions I had with Coach George when at ETHS.
His messages were heartfelt, motivating and helpful for a whole bunch of us wrestling with the general challenges of growing up.

In gym class during the wrestling section, I loved watching Mr. George select the class's biggest bullies for wrestling demonstrations. He'd have those tough guys tied up in knots in a heartbeat. The rest of us would laugh--to ourselves. One of the best parts of high school! Nice guy and a one-time neighbor when I was a kid--I was glad to know him, if only a for a bit.
