I am writing to you as I heard of Danny thru Jim Taylor. I am an Aunt of Jimmy thur marriage and also a bereaved mom. ( my son died years ago now. and you never , never forget your child ever. ) I am so sorry to hear of Danny and wanted to extend a hug and helping hand. I wanted to let you know about the Children's Memorial Heartlight bereaved program and to let you know of a candle lighting ceremonial in memory of children; on APRIL 24, Sunday at Lincoln Park Presbytarian Church, 600 W Fullerton, Chicago, IL 2:00pm- . I missed a meeting at the Chicago's Chapter of Compassionate Friends that you had attended;and want to let you know I attend the monthly meetings as well. It is very, very painful to attend meetings. Just want to let you know you are not alone in your pain and you can find support from others that have gone thru it. Danny is missed and loved forever. My heart goes out to your family. T Taylor

The story of your amazing son and his enthusiasm for life has brought such inspiration into my life; I am blessed by his memory, even though I did not know him. Last week I lost another friend, who also enjoyed life. Taking the words you wrote as his epitaph, I wrote a song to keep the inspiration close. It's called "Sam and Danny Did":
Sam and Danny Did
(For Sam Flesher and Danny Stanton)
I’ve always lived a buttoned-down life
Afraid to let myself go
Never knowing what lurked within
The demons kept under control
I’ve hewn a path narrow and straight
Held to my forefathers’ line
Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, Girl
Don’t waste a minute of time
But we buried Sam today
Who wasn’t afraid to live
And Danny not so long ago
Whose four short years were a gift
And somehow I hear them saying to me
That mensch, that sweet little kid
Please go ahead and enjoy your life
Sam and Danny did
Don’t worry so much about making mistakes
Take chances, have a good time
Learn what makes you happy, do it
Forgo the perfect rhythm and rhyme
Smile and talk to strangers you meet
Believe the best is to come
And if you lose heart and want to give up
Remember what they would have done
And somehow I hear them saying to me
That mensch, that sweet little kid
Please go ahead and enjoy your life
Sam and Danny did

After my husband passed away im March, my son-in-law said "God only takes the strongest soldiers". I hope these words can bring you even a tiny bit of comfort. To have touched so many lives in such a short time is a miracle. May God bless you always.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanton,
My 93 year old dad read about Danny in the Portland (Maine)Press Herald. It moved him so much that he passed the article on to me. Danny's story moved me too - so much so that after reading the story, I folded it up and put it in my purse - I just couldn't put it in the recycle bin!
I was just searching in my purse for a phone # and saw the folded newsprint. I took the story out and re-read it and suddenly the frustrations of the day vanished. I'll bet I'm not the only one out there who never met Danny or your family, but has been changed by his story - I just wanted you to know that Danny's spirit lives on! God bless you.

As a mother of young children, it's so hard to separate your loss from my own life. I keep coming back here to check on this guest book, as if another entry prolongs Danny's influence. He was a beautiful child. And his death a reminder of the fragility of ALL life. I cannot find a way to be sorry enough, so instead, I'll deepen my own thankfulness for what I have. Hoping and praying that your family finds a deeper closeness too. There is no greater tribute to your precious Danny.
I will keep your family and Danny in my prayers. Hoping that there is comfort in the many who are strangers but hold you in our arms.
God bless Danny....

Mariann,
I was a McAuley classmate of yours (my last name was Lenehan). The story I read about your little boy moved me so much that I wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my prayers. Your little boy was truly special -- a real tribute to his parents, siblings, and the loving environment in which he lived. I wish you and your whole family peace.

My deepest sympathies to the Stanton family. I can't imagine the suffering you must be going through! My wish is that you find solace with your loved ones, and the memories that you all have of Danny! I came upon the article about your remarkable "little boy" by accident, and was brought to tears immediately! What a blessing to be given this very special, precious gift~~if even for 4 short years!! Danny is now with God playing ball, and befriending everyone. Danny's story should remind all of us to hug, high-five, laugh, lend a hand, love, and "live" more!! He "did", why can't we? Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all!!
God Bless you!!~

My condolences to the Stanton family. I truly understand their grief at the loss of their young son. My son passed away from SUDEP in June of 2008. He was 8 years old, and had the same "live life to its fullest" attitude as Danny did in the news story I read. Hope to meet you someday to discuss our special boys.

God Bless you and your family during this difficult time. You were blessed to have such an amazing child. We can all learn from the lessons that he taught in his few short years. Maybe others will learn to live the way he lived and the world will be a better place. God Bless!

I don't know you or your son but reading the article about him made me feel as if I know him. I can tell that he was "an old soul who had been here before". I can imagine a room lighting up when he walked in. Just think, that star is shining brightly in heaven now and will forever shine upon you. May you forever cherish the memories.

I met Danny only once. He smiled at me. His smile was the most effortless expression of joy I have ever seen and I have two young children so that says a lot. When I saw the notice of his death, I remembered that smile. I hope that in time the pain lessens and you see what I do when I pray for and give thanks for Danny.....that grin. Blessings and prayers for all who loved Danny. Many have read about him and share in your sorrow. You have a beautiful family. And, a beautiful angel too.

Dear Stanton Family,
I just sat to read my emails, taking a break from cleaning up the huge holiday mess in our house. I saw Danny's story, clicked past it, read my emails and got up and started working again. Something told me to go back and read it and I am so glad that I did....I was meant to. First, my profound sympathy to your entire family. I have come to realize in my 45 short years, that none of us really knows what we have in store for our lives. We plan, we teach, we provide, we protect, we love, but for some things, we just don't get to decide...God does. We don't have to like it, we just learn to find a way to accept it. I have done the eulogies at 5 funerals including my best friend's daughter that dropped dead from a heart issue at 19 and my mother that died at 69 after a 3 week battle with cancer. At each of their funerals, I included a quote from Abraham Lincoln that was fitting for them and especially fitting for Danny. "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it is the life in your years." Danny did. Danny truly lived his life...all 4 years and he will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone that knew him...and even those he never met. Ours prayers are with you.

Dear Stanton Family,
I read about your little boy today and I am deeply sorry for your loss. On June 21st 2008 my 12 year old nephew died in his sleep and the cause remains unknown. Danny reminded me of Jake when I read the things that were written about him. After Jake died I knew God called him home for a special reason. We can only find comfort in knowing that our children are in heaven. I pray for peace each day and the ability to humanly deal with the loss. I pray the same for you and your family. May God comfort you.

Michael and Mariann,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your child. He sounded like a real angel on Earth, and there's no doubt he's in Heaven, where he is surrounded by God's loving hands.
We lost our son Tommy at five years of age this past November, to seizure activity as well. He had Angelman Syndrome, and we miss him dearly. The story about your son brought tears to our eyes, and what a priest told us was so true. Our children are not suffering anymore, it is us who are. Prayers are being sent your way, and just reading about your son's kindness and love of life, makes me more grateful for every day. To think someone that young could have such maturity and thougtfulness, that is a special boy indeed. God Bless You and keep you comforted during this difficult time.

I cannot imagine how you feel. I am the grandmother of a four year old boy who resembles Danny's picture. He had his second seizure on Dec. 17, but was during the day, and spent several days in the hospital. Luckily he came home for Christmas Eve and day. I am scared to death, but like Danny he has brought so much joy. I will pray that you find peace in your memories and love around you. I am so sorry.

When I read the aricle..all I could think about was WHY, and HOW would you and your family cope???
I PRAY for JESUS to give you all AMAZING GRACE, COMFORT, and PEACE!!!!
Oh God!!!...how I mourn and PRAY for you....
I am a mother of two boys. My youngest had cancer, and that was something that we would experience seeing other families having to say goodbye "for now"...
I am SO DEEPLY SORRY for your loss. You brought a BRIGHT shining star into this world and he left the SAME way!! He was wonderfully special because of what you "ALL" gave him, showed him, and loved him each and every minute of each and EVERY DAY!!!! He will be waiting for you at those pearly gates when its your time..until then he will be smiling down on you...
JESUS be with you all....

I thought you might be a tiny bit comforted to know that Irving Berlin wrote the song "White Christmas" 14 years after his infant son, Irving Jr., was found dead on Christmas morning 1926 (probably a victim of sudden infant death syndrome.) Irving and his wife Ellin had a daughter at the time, then he and his wife had two more daughters. Every Christmas Eve, Irving and Ellin would take time out of the holiday celebrations to visit their son's grave.
So in the future, whenever you hear the words
"I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know"
I'd like you to remember that Irving was thinking of his son, just like you are thinking of Danny.

Dear Stanton Family,
The ten people in my family here in Tucson, Arizona are shedding tears for your loss (although God clearly gained an angel in heaven). Our thoughts and prayers are with you, more than you know. Out here in Arizona, there is a saying among the Yaqui Indians: no one is ever truly gone, until the last person who remembers you is gone. I have shared your story with my children. They will share Danny's story with their own children (three of them have epilepsy). Phrased differently, Danny's sotry will live for a very, very long time among people here in Tucson who will keep him (and you) in our prayers. With warmest regards, the Uhlmann family

Dear Stanton Family,
I just read Danny's story and I'm in awe of him and of all of you. It's Christmas Eve and I'm running around trying to get things done and was about to go rattle off a list of things for my 10 yr. old daughter to do before company arrives. Instead I'm going to go hug her, and just sit and enjoy Christmas and life with her. Just like Danny did..
Thank You for sharing your story, and your angel, with us.

Stanton Family, As I set here today with very troubled and confused heart, I just want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss of Little Danny, but know that he is a very special child and he will remain in your hearts for every tomorrow to come.
I live the life of the four year old child who has seizures and for reasons unknown. I have spent many days and nights at a childrens hospital with my daughter.Your family is living my worst fear. I have also sent her to pre -school this year and I still fear the WHAT IF!!! I have been able to save her several times and I am so scared that the day will come and I will not be there.
I want you to know that Danny was a Blessing and I also want you to know that as his parents you were the Blessing for him. He chose you. He knew that you were special and that at this time, you will find the strenght to make a positive impact on the lives of your family and to leave a Living Legacy for other families who have a special child. Fo this say THANK YOU.
With Christmas, I want to close your eyes and remember that you his special parents were the chosen ones. You are Little Daniels Blessing.

DANNY DID IT
God's heavenly conference was called with loud singing.
The message was sent out with silver bells ringing.
The angels were happy, their wings set to humming.
The word had spread quickly: Danny was coming.
He entered in triumph, his little feet thumping.
All hearts in the heavenly realm were sent jumping.
"I did all I could," He cried out to the thronging
of heavenly hosts. "Did I earn my belonging?"
Then God rose in majesty, perfect eyes tearing,
And scooped up the perfect young soul so endearing
and said, "How I missed you, my precious young son!
You ran just exactly the life all should run!"

Dear Mike, Mariann, Mary Grace, Johnny, Tommy and Stanton and Murtaugh Families,
We knew of Danny through Betty and Pete and met you all briefly at graduation parties for Katie & Patrick. They always spoke with such love about all of your children. We are praying to the Blessed Mother to give you strength through this very trying time. I know Danny held a very special place in many people's hearts in his short time on earth. His memory will live on forever in their hearts and in the wonderful stories you will share with others. Our deepest sympathy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family - although Danny didn't really know us that well, he always had this infectious smile and always took the time to say hello when he saw either my husband or myself - I'm sure Danny will be remembered fondly by everyone - Rest in Peace ...
