From his earliest days in Springfield, Dan and I connected-- from pork chops at Norb Andy's to zoning issues in the northwest suburbs. I considered him a great friend--perfect family man-- and truly one of the finest ever to walk the halls in Springfield. He will be missed.

My heart is broken for you all. I am so, so sorry to hear of the passing of a wonderful man.

I'm not sure that a man like your dad exists in our generation - the patriarch of a big Irish brood, true to his Chicago roots and a man for his family - working hard, building a successful law practice, partnering with his love of 50 years to raise a million strong, beautiful, confident children and provide for them. Surely, watching his family welcome two million grandchildren was among his proudest achievements.

I can't imagine how you're feeling today - and I guess I'm lucky in that respect. As bad as I imagine it is...it's probably worse, but the silver lining you've found in being with your family these past few is amazing and surely your dad felt he could go in peace knowing you were all together.

Dan and I became friends in 1958 when we were freshmen at Loyola Law School. We were Assistant State's Attorneys together and have stayed friends ever since. I'd love to tell you about the majestic and magnificent way Dan tried a "heater" case I watched but there isn't enough space. Dan was passionate about all that is good in life and he was as kind and generous a man as you will ever find. His sense of humor and good deeds set a standard for us all.He loved his family and he loved his fellow man. We have lost a great friend.
