Chester Kropidlowski Obituary

Kropidlowski, Chester Robert

Chester Robert Kropidlowski, born on July 15, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025. He was 83. Chester was a beloved son of the late Chester and Martha Kropidlowski, and is survived by his twin sisters, Carol Witek (Robert) and Grace Ferguson (Terry). He was a cherished uncle to Sherry Wille (Brian), Tammy Baranowski (Steve), Deanna Hedderman (John), and Gina Sochowski (Steve), and proudly held the title of great uncle to Lauren (Patrick), Kate, Grace, Robert, Marie, Josie, Paige (Jerry), Brooke (Rachel), and Ryan. Chester dedicated his professional life to the field of civil engineering, serving the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation. He proudly served in the United States Army from April 1964 to January 1966 and remained committed to the community throughout his life. Chester earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, where he was an accomplished wrestler, and later obtained a Master's degree in Science from DePaul University. Beyond his career, Chester's passions included golfing and fishing, and he relished the many traveling adventures he shared with his late significant other, Lenore. His community engagement was profound; he was actively involved in the Wrigleyville and Lakeview communities where he was a long-time condo board member, and he also contributed to the Cubs getting night games. Chester assisted in the planning of the Chicago Marathon, enjoyed Cubs games and created cherished memories with friends at Murphy's Bleachers. Chester's generous spirit was reflected in his donations to various organizations, including Misericordia, the Cancer Society, Lincoln Park Zoo, the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and many others. In honor of Chester's life, services will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home, located at 1458 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60657. Friends and community members will gather on Saturday, January 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a Memorial Service of Chester's life at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy at 6300 North Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660, phone: 773-973-6300, an organization that Chester passionately supported.

May Chester rest in peace. He was a very caring and generous person. I got to know Chester through our work together as members of the East Lake View Neighbors. When I was a Board Member, Chester befriended me, and learning of my community interests as a professional planning consultant, he introduced me into the steering committee leading the planning outreach process for "Redefine the Drive," rebuilding north Lake Shore Drive. Working with Chester as volunteers on this endeavor I found very rewarding. Our Chicago gained greatly because of Chester“s dogged interest in making life better for its citizens, visitors and neighbors.
With my sincere sympathies to his family,
Mark N. Lundgren [now of Abingdon, Maryland]
